Guest guest
While I am adult, I certainly can remember so well my middle school years with my hearing loss. At that time, we were generally fit with one hearing aid - this is in the 50's. What I most remember is difficulty hearing in noise, directionality and in general working so hard to hear. Flash forward to my present situation with bilateral CI's. The difference between one CI and two CI's is like night and day. First, hearing in noise is so much easier. Second, soft sounds come in so much clearer and with less effort. I can track who is speaking, so in the classroom precious information will not be lost because your daughter could zone in on the speaker much more quickly. Last, she would have the benefit of newer technology. Just the fact SHE is thinking about it should give you reason to help her pursue this should she desire it, which I see you are doing. Good luck and we hope she finds someone her own age. If not, feel free to bring your questions here anyway. I was first implanted 12 years ago, and became bilateral 5 years ago. It has been the BEST thing I have ever done! Warmly, Carol in WI > My daughter is 13 years old and was implanted when she was 4 with an Advanced Bionics CI. She has done very well. Now, she is thinking of going with a 2nd implant. I'm hoping she can speak with other people around her age who have gone from one to two CIs. Is it worth it? What are some of the positives of the change and the challenges? Any information you can provide is appreciated
