Guest guest
The first rechargeables I got were grey, but a dark grey. The newer ones are white. The old grey ones will no longer hold a charge, but Linn at Cochlear tells me they have to be recharged regularly, or they won't work at all. I was just testing the white ones I just got to make sure they hold a charge and they do. Who knows what the color difference is. Maybe they ran out of grey plastic and used black? , What do you mean by gray and white batteries? Are you referring to rechargeables? If so, mine are black in color. ____________________________________________________________ Get a life insurance quote online. Guest guest
Bear in mind, if you don't keep those rechargeables charged and used every so often, they will not function in the long run. And if they are more than a year old, they won't be replaced by Cochlear either. See below from Linn Tearney: The rechargeable batteries are warrantied for one year. It may be a problem if you didn't use them as they may have lost their ability to take a charge. Lithium ion batteries need to be charged and used or they deteriorate. That may be what has happened with yours. Since they are over a year old, we can't replace them for you. I agree. I love my rechargeables and would use them more often, but I reserve them for emergencies (i.e. I'm running low on disposables and can't afford to buy more) or when I'm not feeling well enough to change disposables. ____________________________________________________________ Compete with the big boys. Guest guest
I generally keep V at 4 and Sens at 3. Probably why I get such extraordinary battery life. But who needs to hear the dogs in the 'hood barking, or people running snowblowers and what have you. And I remove the device when I'm running something loud like a lawn mower or leaf blower, etc. Don't need to hear it, no reason to listen to it. I'd take it off when I run the vac, but it's been so long I don't think I remember how to do it anymore. Run the vac, that is, not take it off. Definitely different stokes for different folks - but I rarely turn my S to above 3- or else I get too much outside noise and echo like sound? I keep V at 7. ____________________________________________________________ Stuck in a dead end job?? Guest guest
Hi , I have had a CI in my left ear for three and a half years. Went bilateral last week with activation scheduled for this coming Wednesday. During the initial mappings for my left CI my audiologist insisted I keep the sensitivity at 12 unless I was in a noisy environment. I think it had something to do with expanding my dynamic range. I still keep sensitivity at 12 on my normal program and while my battery life is only two days the fidelity is excellent. I'll let you know if she is still recommending a sensitivity of 12 when she activates the new one. Guest guest
Hi Jim, I thought 12 was the max, and was told 19 or 20 was max for sensitivity. I don't ever need it that high. I prefer my peace and quiet. Turn to a different map with 5 for sens and 7 for vol when I'm with people. But when I'm home alone, I use the quieter program. HEY, my rechargeable battery just gave the low battery signal. Been using it for a WEEK. I'm impressed. Wonder if I have the other one recharged around here somewhere. Guest guest
Hi , Wow a full week. I get about two days on my recharageable batteries. My audiologist has always said I like volume. How are you doing with music? Music is something I am really enjoying with the CI. My insurance is Tri-Care. They sent me to Swedish Hospital in Seattle for the first one. Now they have a CI Surgeon at Madigan Army Hospital Ft. , WA who trained with the House Ear Group so they sent me there for the new one. Both were excellent. Guest guest
SPEAK rules in my head, that's for sure. But the older grey batteries didn't last as long as these newer white ones. Wondering how long the warranty is on the grey batteries, since they will not take a charge any more. Not that I used them, but was testing the white ones, and found out the grey ones won't charge. Indeed, I've used SPEAK all my implant life. I have tried both CIS and ACE and can't understand as well as I can with SPEAK. But as we all know, you NEVER trade battery life for hearing comprehension. SPEAK is slow, and I'm blonde. It's a match made in heaven. Hi , You use the SPEAK strategy right? Guest guest
, Cochlear redesigned the rechargeables because they were causing the controllers to crack. So the color, on the inside part, was changed so one would know which was the old and the new design. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Let a man warm himself by your fire and he will be warm for an hour; set him on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life. --Anonymous & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
, Thanks for the explanation. I don't use my rechargeables often which is probably why I haven't had any problems with them. I've had them for 2.5 years.
Guest guest
, That is good. They were just a tiny wee bit too big with the o ring and took some force to insert them into the controller. I use both types but am using disposables right now because they expire this year. They sure are nice. So much easier to change on the fly. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* When the plums dry on your tree, it's time to prune. -- Pun of the Day & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
Another reason why I don't use my rechargeables as often as disposables is because I can't afford to replace the former when they no longer work. If they needed replacement, I'd have to save quite a bit of money since I'm bilateral. I'm also on a fixed income, so money can be scarce. Guest guest
Meducare does not look at their claims right away, if ever They process a billion claims yearly. I dont see anything in the guidelines that says batteries of any kind for cochlear implants are not covered. I sure would not hesitate to order new ones if needed. Got a little more than 2 10 pack boxes left, then will order one box and use the rechargeables all the time. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* I bought some powdered water, but I don't know what to add to it. & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@...
