Thanks Alice, , Snoopy and Jodi for your support. I did send a

followed up response explaining I was just sharing what is continuing to be

stated in deaf groups. Even though the actual incident happened a year ago,

it is still being circulated within the deaf lists this week. Not only am I

alarmed by what is being said, but I am deeply concerned about potential CI

users reactions to these posts. The person who forwarded this post has lost

his hearing and thus decided not to get a CI based on that info. A staff

member who works for an agency and I are trying to set the record straight

and continuing to do so, but some of the readers are not convinced. Ted and

others, don't jump to conclusions I wrote the following because I did not

and do not jump on me, but this statement was posted yesterday:

And now that its a new day, I think has some apologies coming for

the mean and hateful things said to her. Some of you jumped without

looking. Some of you did not stop to think. And some of you know who

has bilateral CI's. Knee jerk reactions never accomplishes anything.

I have nothing else to say on the matter, except to say that if

anyone else posts anything so inflammatory, please say where its

from, so that its obvious it isnt your own writing. That wasnt the

case in the first post and I dont know from a bar of soap.

Maybe it was obvious to you that did write it, but it was just as

obvious that she didnt and you didnt take the time to find out. You have

been on this list long enough to know . Takes a man to apologize to

her, you up to it?

I'm just catching up on some of this, I read it, knew immediately that

those words were not 's but I've been here for a while. Maybe some

of the newer people just reacted because of the content.(didn't read

everything though...yet)

I for one found out about the vaccinations from a forum back in the

summer or fall when the FDA and CDC sent out their warnings, and took

my little boy in for a shot after finding he wasn't " covered " ...

I can understand newer folks reacting without me including an explanation in

the original post, and I apologize for this. But, both you, Ted, and I have

been on CI Hear for a while and you know I have CIs. Thus why would I myself

bash CIs? And you continue to react after my follow up posts.

I have kept out of this unfortunate series of exchanges. Since i did

not know you either, the initial posting made me more angry than i can

remember being for a long time.Having understood my misunderstanding, i

am just as angry,but not at you!

I have seldom been involved with the deaf community, but I can see

their point of view about not implanting children, whilst not agreeing

with it.

Its just so sad that minorities such as this can sink so low, in

pursuit of their " political " agendas.

Hi,

Even though I am new on this list, I knew from another list and I know

she meant well. I saw right away that it was a copy from an article, though I

didn't notice the date of the article.

I have heard of the higher incidence of meningitis among CI users, especially

children. The mother should have made more of an effort to get her daughter

vaccinated. It was a tragedy. I believe tragedies happen for a reason. To make

others aware of what could happen and that they are not invincible.

At my CI evaluation last week, the ENT gave me a perscription for a vaccine

against meningitis and recommended I take the shot two weeks before the CI

surgery. Right now we are awaiting for insurance approval/authorization.

It has not made me change my mind; I want to hear better.
