Guest guest
I'm new to the group, so I thought I'd introduce myself with a little history and then a question. I'm 44 and started losing my hearing about 5 years ago, but didn't start to wear hearing aids until 8 months ago. In March 2007, I experienced a drastic loss of hearing and my speech discrimination went from 35% to almost 10%. I was approved for a CI and had surgery September 20th and was turned on October 15th. I have a Nucleus Freedom 24, and had the surgery at The House Ear Institute in Los Angelos. The results have been really outstanding and my audiologist said I was doing great. I was able to hear speech clearly by the second day and somewhere in the past 2 weeks people started to sound less " robotic. " I didn't really notice when. I was able to talk on the phone on the second day as long as the person spoke slowly and clearly and even made a doctor's appointment. The television is still giving me some trouble, as is music. I went in for my third mapping (this is my two weeks after being turned on) and my only complaint was with volume. My audiologist said that when turning up the volume I may lose clarity. She did increase the volume for me and now I feel like I'm not hearing as clearly and voices are sounding a little like a tin cup. Has anyone had this happen and should I just give it some time for my brain to adjust to the new volume setting? Turning down the volume doesn't seem to really help much. I'm using the ADRO and Autosensitvity Programs. I also have a third program where I can manually adjust my sensitivity and volume controls.
