Guest guest
Hi Went to see the Surgeon for the first time today, where they performed a stimulation test, where as they perforated the eardrum with a fine wire which they plugged onto the bones in the middle ear and a applied an electric current to see if my ears and auditory nerve would respond with sound to electic stimulation, both ears came out with great results, now i just have to decide wich one to have implanted, I have never read about this test on here, and as you could imagine it was not a nice feeling to have your eardrum perforated, it was quiet painfull actually, Has anyone else ever had this done before ? Have the approval now to go ahead with the surgery, will be about a nine month wait on the public list, which isnt to bad for a freebie. Guest guest
Hi Neil, The test you had is call the promontory stimulation test, and they stopped doing it years ago around here, because the results are not conclusive. I had rather dreadful results with mine, didn't even feel the stimulation, but sure felt the pain, and yet I have 98% comprehension with the first implant. 87% with the second implant. So the Prom Stim hasn't been done in this country for ages, maybe 10 years or more. I'm surprised they are still doing it downunder. Guest guest
Hi I totally agree, the pain was awfull as you know, but i could actually hear the sounds quiet well, I hope thats a good sign for when I get the implant, but certainly would not like to go through that again.
