Guest guest
I myself don't have an implant yet, but I'm a candidate for one. Just need to get a CT scan done so we can see how the cochleas are, and... still need to find coverage too as I have no insurance. But I have already decided that I would choose Advanced Bionics. Don't get me wrong, Cochlear's Freedom sounds like it's a really good device, but I'm just more attracted to AB's Harmony; the design and color options for Harmony, the power cels, and the Hi-Resolution processing. While I am still trying to find coverage, I continue to check both Cochlear and Advanced Bionic's websites frequently to see if there have been any updates or news, etc. That's all I can do at this time, keep up with my research.CD Meggers Wyoming School for the Deaf archive: http://www.wyomingdeaf.com Blog: http://cdm85.blogspot.com > > From: spvkid@...> Date: Thu, 6 Dec 2007 05:39:59 +0000> Subject: Choosing the implant> > Hi,> I am a the point where I need to choose which implant I want to get. Guest guest
Hi , I choosed the Cochlear Freedom. I have been implanted since August 2006 and is happy as a clam. (if they are happy) I think what ever one you decide on will be fine. The reason I went with the Freedom was the product reliability, reputation, and customer service. If you have any particular questions please feel free to contact me privately. a from L.A. Implanted w/ Freedom 8-06 at House Clinic
Guest guest
CD make sure you do all your homework before deciding on which brand of implant. I for one wanted to make sure that what was being put in my head was reliable and the color was of little difference to me as long as it worked. Also check out the terminology especially in reference to Hi Resolution Processing and spectra bands. Good luck with your decision. Guest guest
Hi , Choosing was very difficult for me. Each implant brand has its pros and cons. I ulitimately chose Advanced Bionics and was implanted 8 days ago. So far so good and I will be activated in just 4 days! ly, the quality control issues that AB has in its record in the past are a bit troublesome, and it almost swayed me to go with Cochlear. For me, it came down to the technology and capability of the implant. I feel that the AB HiRes implant has the potential to provide finer frequency resolution, and as a former musician and music-lover that is very important to me. I also like that I can get the external processor in black, but that's just a bonus! My surgeon did not attempt to sway me either way, though he said he leaned toward Cochlear due to reliability. My audiologist also prefers Cochlear because she feels the external processor and programming software are more similar to the hearing aid technologies she's used to fitting. After weighing everything in my mind, I went with my gut feeling. That way no matter what happens I can feel happy with the choice. -Jeff my CI blog: http://ci-metalpostcard.blogspot.com/
Guest guest
Greetings , I have been away from this board a couple of years. I still cannot believe the mud slinging on brands. I like you was deciding in late 03, and read some of this kind of thing. I came to the opinion that wise people chose different brands because of the time of inovation by each brand. A year before 03 my choice would have been CA, I researched and liked the recharge all day batteries, and especially the Hi Res capability of AB and I realized more people with AB had an appreciation of music, this was just my experience. On a trip it is no problem to " remember " to bring the charger this is your new life so you know to do it. Also you can use a disposible battery if you choose and you can recharge using your car 12 volt recepticle. I have never had the need, but pack the adapter just in case. I have never had a reliability problem, or customer service issue. My audi was young and experienced and not afraid to learn about the new programs coming from AB. My audi or Dr. would never then or now favor a brand. I would not expect them to. How have I made out with my CI? Scored 100% sentence req. 86% single word, use a phone everyday and only have map appointments once a year. With scores like this I see no need in bilateral implant. I am not against it in other people. I am totally deaf without the processor on. I enjoy music at almost the quality I had before with this new Harmony 120. There are many satisfied people using all brands of CIs and most are going about there daily lives and not on these boards. I am not an advocate of a Brand. Enjoy your journey. Guest guest
Hi , It's good to hear from you. Regarding the " mud slinging " on brands - unfortunately, there is absolutely no way to stop it although many attempts have been made. The most important thing is that hearing is restored with these implants and the choice of brand is yours to make. They are modern day providers of miracles in the lives of people who enjoy quality of life again. Freedom of choice belongs to all of us. Brand loyalty is what I would rather call this and it is evident and does sound very strong from some individuals. My instincts do tell me that those feelings do come from the heart. I still cringe when I see a question on the list inquiring about the choice because I know that again we will see that brand loyalty. What those new members don't realize is that anyone implanted has a natural loyalty to their brand because they have been given a great gift. Guest guest
> > Hi , > > It's good to hear from you. Greetings to you Alice and Amen. Some of my best friends have the " Other Brands " :-) This is really the point I was trying to make with the person asking the question we have all asked at some point. All the Best and Happy Holidays to all and which way they celebrate. L.
Guest guest
I have to agree with you here, . My love of music and my intense desire to hear it again is exactly why I've chosen AB HiRes. Plus I love all the crazy colors you can choose. I'm going with the techno colors. No blending colors for me! ;-D Rhonda in SD -- Re: Choosing the implant A year before 03 my choice would have been CA, I researched and liked the recharge all day batteries, and especially the Hi Res capability of AB and I realized more people with AB had an appreciation of music, this was just my experience.
