Guest guest
Hi Bruce: I am a bilateral CI user who was first implanted almost 14 yrs. ago and became bilateral almost 7 years ago. The bilateral experience has been the BEST decision I have ever made regarding my hearing loss situation. It was difficult, because I thought I had such a great result with my first CI. I heard so MUCH more than with my HA. However when my HA on the opposite ear becaue useless I was faced with the option of a second CI. I am so glad I chose to move forwared with it. My speech discrimiation scores soared. It was amazing how much less effort it took to listen. I also was amazed how much less effort it took to hear soft sounds. In a nutshell, it was truly amazing how much more I gained with bilateral CI listening. I was so over the top happy with CI hearing with my first CI. I did not think it could get any better! Then my HA on the opposite side stopped helping me. I was told I could get a second CI. I decided " ^Yes I was ready! " It was the second BEST decision I have every made regarding my heaitng loss. While I do not have the Hybrid CI, I do have a good friend who had one and did very well with it. What I CAN share with you is the wonderful benefits of BILATERAL CI implantation. We were born with 2 ears, and I believe that is the reason we hear BEST with bilateral CI's or HA's. I will be thinking of you on the day of your surgery and will pray that your surgeon's hands are guided for the best outcome for you! I sent this same prayer up for my own surgery and immediately felt a " warm cocoon " around me. I know prayer works, as I have had an outstanding outcome with my now almost 14 yr old CI and newer 7 year old second CI - both are the Nucleus 24 and I use the Freedom processor. I anxiously await the Nuclues 5 update for my N24 system. I most likely will only get one N5 and keep the Freedom on my later CI. Warmly, Carol in WI 4a. Guest guest
Hi Carol, Thanks for the information and kind words. I'm sure to be enveloped in warm bowl of Marinara sauce filled by the all powerful Flying Spaghetti Monster who has personally assured me of the successful outcome already. http://www.venganza.org/spread-the-word/ Bruce > > > > In two weeks I will hopefully become the 1st person in the U.S. with two > Hybrid CI's!!! > > I'm having the procedure performed by Dr. Hoffman the head of N.Y.
