Guest guest
, I have not but would be quite comfortable is getting an MRI if needed, with magnet removed. The question is tho, does anyone in this country run MRI's at lower than 1.5 tesla? I am not sure they do. Another question too is, are there other equally viable options to an MRI? *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Ok, so what's the speed of dark? -- & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn Newport, Oregon N24C 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/
Guest guest
, But how common is an MRI done at 0.2 tesla? And do you know anyone who got a 1.5 with magnet in? I'm curious about that. I do know of someone who did not understand she did in fact have a magnet inside her head and went in for an MRI...twice. Then the technician got wise and learned the truth. Scary. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* The math professor went crazy with the blackboard. He did a number on it. & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
, you are correct - in the UK. But here in the bloody US, the Nucleus implants, as well as those by Advanced Bionics, are not approved by the FDA for MRIs of any field strength without magnet removal. You can read about it here: http://tinyurl.com/yctbmu7 The only implant approved by the FDA for the procedure with magnet intact are those from MED-EL, and only up to .2 Tesla - far lower than commonly utilized in MRI diagnostics today in the US. Guest guest
Is this the lady who is suing the facility for going ahead with a MRI even after it was painfully obvious that she had a magnet in her head? It still gobsmacks me that anyone who's gone through a CI should fail to tell anyone of that fact. I remember when I went for a MRI years ago for a spinal injury (this was pre-CI), I had to fill out a form disclosing every medical procedure I'd been through. And how can anyone not know they have a magnet in their head? Kat On Sun, Oct 4, 2009 at 5:37 PM, <rclark0276@...> wrote: > > > , > But how common is an MRI done at 0.2 tesla? Guest guest
I'm obviously behind on this subject. But when I could not have an MRI (or my sinuses/head) I had to have something called a CT with myologram, I think it was. It is viable but complicated. It required an injection before the CT and basically took several hours. Not a pleasant experience. But necessary, I think. Guest guest
Anne, is from the UK where the rules are different. It was pointed out that in this country, most MRI's are 1.5 tesla which requires *removal* of the magnet. Your surgeon is the best source for information. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Money Talks ... but all mine ever says is Goodbye! & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@...
