Its x-ray technology, safe for the cochlear implant. I would much

rather go thru these than suffer the pat downs.

It's not a danger to the cochlear implant, certainly, any more than normal

X-rays are. But normal X-rays are a danger to the body in general, which

is why medical staff using them are always hiding behind shielded

walls/windows.

And these scanners are being used by non-medical staff, and frequent

fliers are going to get exposed over and over again. The UCSF hospital

has already put out a letter of protest against these scanners:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/35498347/UCSF-letter-to-Holdren-concerning-health-risk\

The whole TSA approach to security is just useless " security theater " ,

this scanner included.

A slap in the face and quite possibly a violation of the 4th Amendment.

Thank you all for your information. I have walked through standard

detectors many times with my processor turned on with no problems.

The only problems I did have was with TSA agents who had no idea what

a CI is and were overcautious. I was usually told to turn the

processor off before going through the detectors or wanded. The other

problem was when I had an older model body processor and the batteries

evidently set off the alarms. This did not happen all the time and I

think the power of the detectors varies.

, BRAVO for you.  I'm a CI owner but have yet to fly.  Your wording in

the

2nd para. should be published to the flying public as exactly how they should

feel if they want to use " the airplane " to travel.  It sounds like a bunch of

" sissies " to me...I've never heard of such rediculous complaining.

Thanks for giving us the " word " .  Seth

Subject: CI and airport scanners-

I just returned from Orlando, and went through the regular scanner both

ways, and left my processors on both times. Didn't turn them off,

programs were not erased, and it was no hassle.

We seem to forget that there ARE terrorists bent on killing American

citizens and destroying our way of life. Going through the " hassles " of

being checked for dangerous weapons makes me more likely to fly. We

cannot just target people who " look like " terrorists because of how they

dress, or what they look like. So what is the problem with going through

a scanner that is no different from the scanner you go through to enter

government buildings. If you're not carrying dangerous weapons, why

worry about it. I'd rather be hassled than end up on an airplane with

some lunatic carrying a bomb.

And as a side note, a kid I used to babysit for, who is now a Navy SEAL

was flying from Virginia to California. Sat next to an attractive young

woman and they got to talking. AFTER the flight was over, he found out

she was the security person on the plane, worked for some Government

agency, and was the in-flight security person, armed and dangerous.

Interesting trip. Interesting end of story, they started dating and are

now married. She competed in the SEAL training program they do once a

year at the reunion, and beat several SEALS. So the little lady you sit

next to on a flight, might well be there for your safety.
