Guest guest
How funny! And how determined you are! You go girlfriend! I have 2 teen boys, both of which were gone this morning. I was making my farm rounds when I spotted the bike.....I did ride bikes as a youngster. I should be able to do this. So I hop on. I am SO glad we live real far out in the country and our neighbors cannot see us from their windows because by the time I had that crazy thing under control, I was shaking from head to toe, and that was just in our front yard! I have to ask...Did you wreck at all on that 5 mile ride? I really want to ride. I just really dont' want to fall or wreck. Luck to ya Lady! Robyn alysd38 <no_reply > wrote: Well, it turns out that having learned how to ride a bide at 30, doing it only for a short while (like maybe a total of 20 miles on the bike...not a day...not a week...not a month...but TOTAL) and then not touching it again for 14 years does NOT mean you know how to ride a bike...LOL It is starting all over again for me, and I almost just threw it out, but yesterday, with much hairpulling tears and fears, I rode almost 5 miles on the bike!!! Now I just have to increase that to 90 miles at a go and I'll be ready for that long bike ride in April. I might actually change my goal some. The friend that wanted to do the MS ride from Houston to Austin is backing out on me, and my other friend is not so sure she is capable of it (and she's only 26!! What are they making these young folk out of these days?) so, I might look for a century ride to aim at instead. Anway, just wanted to share my small success...I actually rode the bike! Guest guest
No, I didn't wreck, but I was on broad paved roads. At first my friend who is teaching me wanted to go on a Paved trail, but it was soooooo narrow (four feet) and soooo windy that I was afraid to try it. I needed all the road at first, but after a while I got to where four feet was not too narrow and we did some of the trail anyway. If you decide to get back on the bike, wear a helmut and long pants. The helmut gives real protection and the pants gives a feeling of security. Go for it! Alys
Guest guest
Biking gloves are great too! It's not much fun picking little tiny pieces of gravel out of the palms of your hands (speaking from experience--OUCH!) ~Candy -- Re: Bicycling No, I didn't wreck, but I was on broad paved roads. Guest guest
, I have just started cycling this past year and I love it. I got started by doing a triathlon with Team in Training and I did my cycling with them to train and really enjoyed it. I waited a few months to buy a bike so I could make sure I was into it and would know what to get. I borrowed one in the beginning. If you are new and need workouts and training schedules you could do a race with them. They gave me a 3 month calendar with exactly what to do each day! (run, swim and bike workouts) and we trained some together. I have found a cycling club where i live (greenville,sc) and we do weekend rides and other events. Hope you can get hooked up with someone close to you that can help. Most cyclists are so enthusiastic about it that they are happy to help someone new get started! GOod Luck! heather --------------------------------- Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Add photos, events, holidays, whatever. Guest guest
Well, I am not really sure. This is the first time I have done anything like this. It is 100 miles or you can just do the first half which is 56 miles. I think I would go for the 56 miles since my 12 year old son wants to try it with me. -- Re: bicycling > > Ladies, > Are there any bikers out there? Guest guest
Thanks for the information. I will check them out. I live in Michigan so I am not sure if they are in this area or not, but like I said I will check it out. Thanks again. -- Re: bicycling , I have just started cycling this past year and I love it. I've never done any more, just ride your bike beforehand so you are " saddle " trained for the ride. You can check out bicycling.com for training info, what type of bike do you have? Guest guest
Thanks! I just have a regular mountain bike. It is rather old, so I figure that if I really do go for it and do this I will get a new bike sometime before the ride. Do you cycle? -- Re: bicycling > > Well, I am not really sure. I think I'm doing the Tour de Palm Springs ride next month, if I go with a friend I will do 25 miles, if alone maybe the 50. I love cycling, but haven't been dong much lately. Guest guest
I like the mountain bike because my family likes to do a lot of riding in the woods and you need something that is a little beefier for the paths my dh leads us down. He is up front blazing the trail and I am stuck bringing up the rear and encouraging the kids and trying really hard to convince them that their father isn't nuts! LOL T -- Re: bicycling > > Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Rhonda: Headsweats makes sweat caps that are available at most Local Bicycle Shops that work like a sweat band. The stretchy band part fits right over the coil so even if the processor slips off the ear, the magnet plus the band hold it on my head. Be careful when taking off the helmet because it can catch and whip off the processor to who knows where. Have a sweet ride.
