Guest guest
Howdy Lawrence, One compelling reason against 24/7 is that the magnet puts pressure on the skin and if the skin is not given a break, it will soon start to break down. I can understand your desire not to have all sorts of gadgets around. But consider it a tradeoff for the ability to hear again. You may want to talk to your surgeon about this when you see him next. Guest guest
Some people (including doctors and audiologists) will say that you should not wear your processor 24/7 because of the concern that your skin needs to breathe and could break down, resulting in necrosis. I asked my surgeon (who has been doing implants since 1991 and is world renowned) and he said that is speculation and it is okay to do that. You should be able to tell if your skin needs a break or a lesser strength magnet in the transmitting coil. I have been wearing my processor 24/7 (except while in the shower) for over 12 years with no problems. One time I got an achy feeling where the transmitting coil sits. I asked my surgeon to check it. He said my magnet was too strong. I changed it to a lesser strength, and it was fine. I do not live alone - my husband is hearing, but I am like you - I like to hear, always! Silence drives me batty! Guest guest
Are y'all saying you even wear it when sleeping? How? Personally, and this is just me, I like the silence at times. I've become accustomed to deafness (I'm late deafened), and while I LOVE my CI, I also relish times of quiet when I don't wear it. ..02 Stuart
Guest guest
The reason I don't wear my CIs 24/7 is that the skin where the magnets go need to breathe to avoid skin breakdowns and infections. I was on antibiotics for 10 days 6 years ago when one of the sites turned red and irritated. Guest guest
Let's face it, the BTE CIs are not that comfortable for extended wear, particularly if you also wear glasses and a telephone headset at work. I like having a break from the weight as well as all of the environmental noise.
Guest guest
Eyeglasses are not comfortable either at 24x7, neither are contact lenses. Guest guest
I don't wear the CI 24x7. Sometime I take a break from it when I'm home alone and when I'm sleeping.
