Hi-

Age should not be an issue in getting a cochlear implant.

One of my ci friends is 84 years old and has had her cochlear implant for 2

years and loves hearing with her ci. It has made a huge difference in her life.

She had isolated herself from some of her church and social activities prior to

her ci as communication was so difficult. With her ci, she is this incredibly

social and active lady who I've seen go up to strangers and talk to them. After

her ci was activated, I remember her telling me that her ci had given her life

back and she would rejoice for the rest of her days, whether they were few or

many, for the gift of hearing with a ci. She has counseled other people to not

let age get in the way of getting a ci using her own age as an example. She has

this incredibly positive attitude and a joy for life that I admire greatly.

If you have the opportunity, go to a local HLAA(Hearing Loss Assoc. of America)

meeting where you will most likely meet people with cochlear implants. Each ci

manufacturer(Cochlear, Advanced Bionics, and MedEl) all have some type of online

support. I'm a part of the Cochlear community of Cochlear and it is a great

place for online ci support and to meet others both looking into cochlear

implants, new ci users, parents of ci children, or ci old timers like myself.

Hearing the sounds of your world and the ability to communicate with a greater

ease with your family and friends is too precious. I wish you well in looking

into a ci for youself to enrich your world.

with double ci joy,

Margo
