Guest guest
Wow, this cute little boy definitely has some issues. Our NT daughter was adopted from Central America. Our pediatrician and adoption agency recommended starting over from scratch on all her vaccines. HA! I DON’T THINK SO! Pamela Parks " Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. Guest guest
, Although I never heard of this happening with anyone else, perhaps you could try this...... Ask your son's surgeon to write a Letter of Medical Necessity to BCBS. Sometimes the insurance companies are more receptive to the CI centers than they are to individuals. It certainly can't hurt to try it. Good luck and Happy Hearing! Carol Boca Raton, FL Cochlear America Nucleus 24C - left ear - Sprint 12/11/01 then 3G then upgraded to Freedom on 2/19/08 Cochlear America Freedom right ear -implanted 3/01/06 - activated 4/06/06 From: Sent: Sunday, August 15, 2010 12:45 PM Subject: Re: Digest Number 4964 My son is 15 and has bilateral CI's. He runs cross country, track, plays basketball and is very active in general. We have had to replace his Freedoms every month for the last 7 months. We can see green corrosion on the contacts between the processor and controller. Sometimes, we can see humidity in the controller display. We use the dry n store every night, have tried ear gear and have tried wrapping them with waterproof medical tape when he runs. We live in NC where it is very humid and part of the problem is that he is active all day and wears the CI until 11 pm or later before it gets put in the dry n store. We are in the midst appealing to BCBS to get the N5 for him, but he will only be able to get one N5 until they make one to fit his N24 implant. At this point, he only has one that still works and he does not wear it when he runs, cuts the grass, etc. We realize this could be dangerous but we can't risk this last one breaking. Writing this makes me realize how ridiculous this all is...we are risking his life to protect his processor. If anyone has any other ideas we can try, please send them our way! If anyone has had similar issues with the Freedom and had better luck with the N5, we would love to hear about that as well. It is very frustrating for him (and me!) and he starts high school in 10 days, so he needs both sides working as much as possible!
Guest guest
It might be worth a shot to buy some moleskin and cut out a little piece to put between the processor and his head. The idea is the sweat will pour down his head but miss the processor. This is a 3G trick someone told me about when I was destroying 3G's while playing tennis. Guest guest
I bought a head band, or sports band, in Wal mart to solve that problem. I use it when I'm on the exercise bike or folding clothes from the dryer. I did ruin 2 3Gs because of heavy facial sweating. Trish Re: Digest Number 4964 My son is 15 and has bilateral CI's. Guest guest
During the time I was in high school I always remove my aids during track events since there is not as much need for hearing when I run and I never heard the screaming or cheering of my classmates when I run. Even with sweat resistance aids like the Rion's they will take a beating with all the sweat in the environment. When I mow the lawn I take off my hearing aids and implants because that is another environment where for me, hearing is not important and readjust my communications medthods as needed. For basketball I think that I would want to hear and a sweat band may be helpful in that situation. By prioritizing my hearing needs during sweating situations I can extend the life of my hearing equipment and develop survival skills when my hearing aids failed unexpectedly. > > , > Although I never heard of this happening with anyone else, perhaps you could try this...... > Ask your son's surgeon to write a Letter of Medical Necessity to BCBS.
