Guest guest
My cousin is in the beginning stages of getting a cochlear implant (I am so happy for her I cried when she told me that she was going to start the process). She is having some insurance issues and in trying to help her I remembered that at the Celebration in San I was told that Cochlear's OMS Insurance Support services were going to be expanded. A few things I thought maybe others would be interested in knowing about OMS Insurance Support—maybe this will save someone some time: Of course there is no charge for getting help—I knew that but maybe others didn’t. When I spoke with a member of the OMS support team in February, he explained that people in the department have worked in and for the insurance industry so they know the ins and outs of the business and over the past year have been achieving high success rates in obtaining coverage. One thing he told me was that the squeaky wheel gets the grease even in insurance. OMS also has access to external legal help. All this applies to Baha too (I also know someone who works at the same university as I do and because of persistence with the insurance company he is scheduled to receive a Baha later this summer—he was denied two years ago but insurance is now approving). If a prospective implantee submits a request and it is denied by insurance OMS will help you with an appeal—sometimes just the right words make all the difference. Don’t give up just because insurance says no the first time—your hearing is worth fighting for. OMS will help with all brands of implants not just Cochlear Americas Freedom something I learned recently although I am a Freedom follower all the way. If you need to contact OMS (by the way OMS stands for Otologic Management Services) Cochlear Support you can email, call or fax them at: Email reimbursement@... Phone (800) 633-4667 or Fax (303) 524-6765 PS Sorry I have been AWOL lately—very very busy with wedding planning. Trying to make candy too for the wedding thanks to a in California for the idea.
