Guest guest
I told ya so...... I told ya so..... LOL Wonderful ! And it's only just begun. By this time next year we won't be able to get you down from the clouds..... LOL Happy Hearing! Carol Boca Raton, FL N24C 3G left ear -12/11/01-upgraded to Freedom on 2/19/08 N Freedom- right ear- implanted 3/01/06 activated 4/6/06 Bilateral WOW! I was remapped this past Friday and that was my second real map since my initial stimulation. In the month or so prior to this recent mapping, I had been given a very conservative map to start: a 1200 map with one volume increase, and a 2400 map with one volume increase. I knew right away that the 2400 map was not for me and went right to the 1200. At the time that I first received those maps, I didn't know which was which but I had a feeling that the map I liked better was a slower speed. Ok, moving back to this past Friday...My dynamic range was beautiful! We did all the really soft beeps first (which I now hate because my tinnitus just ends up mimicking it LOL), and then she turned me on and did the comfort levels just by seeing how loud of a conversation I could tolerate. I really like it this way better than they way they used to do it with the comfort levels a whole separate set of beeps! I was able to let her know that the vowels and nasals all sounded good; the Ss were too much for me so she turned them down. Finally we were done and I turned on my first processor.... WOW! SUPER WOW! I felt like I was finally back to something close to normal hearing! The feel of having both sides being used is just so wonderful. All this and I am still many months away from having a map on the left side that sounds great alone. But for now, it sounds really good together. I know there is no way that I'll be sticking with a 1200 map. The slower speeds are better for me. After that I went out to dinner with a friend to a noisy restaurant in Times Square. I heard every word she said!!! I had to turn down the sensitivity on my right side (older one) but other than that, I was so stunned and also so grateful that I could have a conversation in a noisy restaurant. I felt so normal (ok, I know some of you are laughing right now ;-) ) RUN, do not walk, back to your surgeons and go bilateral!! While I was fortunate to retain some residual hearing in my new ear, it is only enough for me to hear my own voice inside of me when I am unhooked, and also some of the very deep bass tones of music when I blast the stereo. But other than that, I really had nothing worth saving anyway. R - N24C 9/00 L - N24CA 7/08 **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? Guest guest
Hi Larry, Stereo is great isn't it! Going bilateral has made a huge difference for me. I can even find my cell phone when it is misplaced by calling it. Having directivity is wonderful. How are you doing with music? Best regards, Jim > > Just had my 1st follow up after right-side activation with the audi. Wow! What a difference 1 week and additional mapping makes! I left his office and immediately called Cochlear's rehab number to listen to the daily word list. I understood everything....and correctly to boot! > > He's set up my programs similar to the left side and doesn't need to see me for 2 months. What a cool feeling to hear on both sides again! Is the right side 100%? No but I'll be working very hard to get there. It's definitely worth the hassle in the beginning. > > Larry > LS implanted 7/28/08 > LS activated 9/10/08 > RS implanted 5/11/09 > RS activated 6/12/09 >
Guest guest
Jim, Funny thing is when I left the audi's office, I just wanted to go home and do more rehab with the Sound & Way Beyond program isntead of going to work. As for music, back in Feb I went to a live show of a blues guy named Hammond. Wasn't sure how it would be given that it was live and I was still learning the left CI. It turned out to be the best thing I could have done. It convinced me that I had done the right thing with the left CI and heled me decide to get the right side done. It's a lot of hard work but it's worth every bit. Funny thing is that tunes that you grew up with and thinking you knew the instrumentals and lyrics, you find out how much you actually missed.
