Also, my father lost his sense of smell through nasal sprays.

Re: OT: Allergies

,

When I talk to my GP on Monday, I'm going to ask if I can try taking a nasal

spray like Astelin or Flonase in addition to Fexofenadine. I'm sure that

will help.

The management of my apartment complex mowed the lawn earlier today. I had

the A/C on with the windows closed, but could still smell the grass from

inside.

Once 7am comes, I'm heading to the drugstore. LOL.

Jackie,

This may sound like a stupid question, but how does an inhaler help you? I have

coughing fits due to my allergies, but I've never considered using an inhaler.

Does it give you immediate relief? If so, I may ask my GP about taking that as

well. I want to be careful though because I'm already taking 8 meds.

Jackie,

Your symptoms sound exactly like mine. I also start coughing when I laugh or am

in cold temperatures. I'll have to ask my psychiatrist how or if an inhaler

would negatively affect the meds I take. If he says it shouldn't be a problem,

I'll definitely ask my GP about this as another option for me.

OT: Allergies

Hi everyone,

I currently take a once/day med for allergies.

However, I've been miserable lately and am finding that my med is no longer

helping me during the afternoon and evening hours.

I called my GP to ask if I can raise my dose, but was told by her nurse that it

is strictly a once/day med.

My GP is out of the office for the weekend, so I was asked to do the best I can

until she returns on Monday.

- I'm on an antidepressant, diabetes and thyroid meds, blood pressure

and cholesterol meds, iron and other vitamin pills and I just added Fish Oil

(darn triglicerides!) Miraculously, when I add my allergy meds it causes

no interaction whatsoever - just relief. so I hope your doc can find a good

" rescue " inhaler for you. Jackie

Hi there ,

I receive all the postings from everybody. Is there something specific you

wanted to ask me? Otherwise I am just enjoying you all. It is amazing how you

all communicate and joke and discuss, and I am looking forward to my daughter

doing the same. We are already so proud of her being in mainstream school and

doing incredibly well.

Have you considered breaking the pill in half and taking half in the

morning and half in the evening, or 12 hours later?

I do that with some of my meds. Harder to do it it's a capsule than a

pill.

And Flonase is great, non addictive, but takes a while to work. Stay

away from the stuff that can get you hooked, and you have to use it all

the time, and it becomes less effective. Saline solution is safe and

good, and you can even make your own. Using tap water and sea salt.

Dearest ,

Did you not read the caveat of the list-owner, with regard to the dangerous

practice of amateur medical advice, in particular, on her list?

With a pretty fair knowledge of medicine, I support her position 100%.

Such should never have appeared on a hearing loss list in the first place.

The Fexofenadine I take are thick, oblong tablets. I can't break them in half

due to my severe CTS.

I need to find a solution because I am miserable during the afternoon, evening

and nighttime hours.

Unfortunately, Fexofenadine is no longer helping me the way it used to and I am

currently taking the highest prescribed dose. (180mg)

Bob,

Since asked for help, and everyone was trying to help, I didn't

think MY suggestion was any more off base than anyone else's. is

old enough to know to ask her GP before doing anything. It was a

SUGGESTION, not practicing medicine.

As for what belongs on the list and what doesn't, if it's listed as

OT, then feel free to skip it.

Hey, - I have a pill splitter that works great on pills - large and

small. I even order my lipitor in 20 MG and cut 'em in half. Saves me a

fortune! I did check with my paharmacist and my dr before doing this to make

sure it was a pill that was safe to do this with and I know you will, too.

Bob - not to worry - we know long enough to know she will always check

our suggestions with her doctor first. In fact, in one of my posts to her

I specifically warned her not to get an over the counter inhaler, as it

could cause more damage than good. The medications I told her about were just

my experience and I asked her to ask her dr - she couldn't get them without

perscription, anyway.

Geez - come to think of it, I did NOT warn her to ask her dr about

driving, but she sounds pretty confident about that! LOL Just kidding, Sweety!

Oh, - sounds like your trip to the doc was very successful. I'm sure

your dr gave good instuctions for use, but wanted to remind you that with

the inhaler - before the first use, spray it to get it going. Expell as much

air as you can then place your mouth over the thingy and inhale as you

press. Hold as long as you can. Wait one or two minutes - and spray again, if

you were told two squirts. For the nasal inhaler - don't spray directly UP.

Tilt it a little so the med goes into the nostral and not straight up into

the top of the nose! LOL You don't have to spray so hard that it blasts

you into space, either! LOL Hold one nostril closed and spray the other one

sniffing up gently - do the same with other side - then back again for both.

I only use that once a day. But maybe your dr suggested it more to get

you started. Whatever - seems cut and dried but I found I was using them ineff

ectively when I first started, so thought I'd pass my tricks to you. Oh -

and don't be surprised to feel a little of an " up " feeling for a short time

after using the inhaler. Just sit down, relax and breath normally. Unless

you want to perserve that " high " longer - and legally! LOL Good luck,

Sweety - I DO want you to feel better! <hugs> Jackie

Hi everyone,

I spoke to my GP this morning who prescribed a nasal spray in addition to

Albuterol for my allergies. She decided to keep my Fexofenadine the same at

180mg and thinks the nasal spray and inhaler will help relieve my symptoms

throughout the day. As far as changing to a different allergy med is concerned,

I was told there isn't anything stronger than what I'm taking now, so I'll see

how the nasal spray and inhaler work. I'm sure I'll feel much better than being

on an allergy med alone. Jackie, I wanted to thank you for mentioning inhalers

because my GP asked me if I had ever been on one before and I said I had a

number of times. However, I never thought about using one on a regular basis to

help my allergies. My GP feels that it will help my dry cough so I no longer

have coughing spells whenever I laugh, take a deep breath or am around dust.

Thank you also to everyone who gave suggestions as to what I could to do get

some relief. I'll be sure to let you know how this new regimen works.

Jackie,

I appreciate the helpful suggestions regarding using a nasal spray and inhaler.

I've used inhalers before, so I'm familiar with them, but not nasal sprays. I'm

glad you explained how to use it or else I would have blasted myself into space.

LOL!

As for how much of Albuterol I'm supposed to take, I don't know that yet. I

don't have the prescription, but will find out tomorrow when I pick it up. I'm

guessing I can use 1 or 2 inhalations at a time. I'm also glad that you

mentioned the high I can experience. That has happened to me before when I used

an inhaler for other breathing issues I had and is something I completely forgot

about.

Thanks again! I'll be sure to let you know how both of them work for me. I'm

hoping to notice some good results as soon as tomorrow or the next day.

Bob,

I mean no disrespect, but I've already apologized to Alice for posting the

message I did.

Furthermore, it was not necessary for you to call out on a public list.

That could have been done privately.

If I would have known my post was going to cause so much tension, I wouldn't

have sent it at all. *sigh*

Next time I'll think twice before doing it again.

My bad, ! <G>

As a listowner meself, I suppose I vicariously felt the exasperation of

having a polite request to cease and desist seemingly ignored.

Also, as a former paramedic, I guess I get chills over the potential for

untoward drug interactions that can occur. secondary to lay advice.

Its ok Bob. It took me years to stop being the back seat driver after I

quit driving. LOL

As a list owner, you also know that certain threads have to run their
