Guest guest
The same thing happened to me and the solution to get rid of the shocks and pain was to explant the problem implant and reimplant the cochlea with a new array. Since the removal of the original implant I have not experienced any problems of being shocked or in pain. So I would follow the advice even if it means surgery again. It is worth it! - BICIer since 2003 Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry I am back again A while back I had written asking if any of you had the shocking effect. Well my surgeon and audiologist have been working on my mappings. In fact a rep from Cochlear America came to their office and did some tests and I really don't know what the resuts were but the audiologist at the Corp. Headquarters gave my audi a new mapping to try. Well everything was tolerable hooked to her computer. No speech understanding but could feel tolerable sensations on the nerve. But when she hooked it back to my processor it started that very painful feelings in my head again at volumne 2 even though it was tolerable at 9 when hooked to her computer. Has anyone else had that happen because they now feel it is the implant that's defective and they have scheduled me for surgery again. My surgeon is booked up for 2 months so while we are waiting they will continue to research the problem but I am told not to wear it. My surgeon feels it should never be painful or uncomfortable. In his opinion is something is wrong with the implant . So please if anyone else has experienced this I would appreciate knowing. I don't want to go to surgery again. Thank you Wanda
Guest guest
I agree with what said. I just wanted to add that the second surgery should be shorter than the first since everything is already in place, they just need to replace what is there.  Your medical team will be extra diligent at making sure everything goes well for you since you've already had gone through so much. So I encourage you to follow your surgeon's advice. Believe me, it will be worth it in the end. BTW, I didn't have to be reimplanted, but I did have to have a second surgery 8 days after my first.  Then I had to sleep upright for a week to make sure I didn't have fluid build up in my ear like it did before. But everything turned out okay. I really appreciated all of the kind attention I received from my surgeon all the way down to the nurses who cared for me before and after my second surgery.  ________________________________ From: " w.cassel@... Guest guest
Thank you and for commenting on your like experience . I feel more confident that what the doctor is recommending is right. I just didn't look forward to doing again if not necessary. I don't know how I could make it without this group and their willingness to share their experiences. I so appreciate it. :-) Wanda Sent from my iPad
Guest guest
Wanda, For someone who was JUST implanted and facing this, you have a great outlook which will carry you thru this. I am not sure how I would feel but, having had my implant 10 years, my hindsight tells me its all worth it. Quote of the nanosecond. . . Guest guest
Thank you C. :-). I try very hard in life to accept what I am handed and make sweet lemonaid out of sour lemons. But you know, it helps to have people who care and are willing to share their experiences. I am very grateful to the group and I hope I can be as helpful to someone who is scared and uncertain in their CI journey as you all have been for me. You are the best!
