Guest guest
I don't think there is anything one can to to reduce the swelling, particularly when it is more inside the head. If it is on the outside you could keep putting cool packs on it periodically. The other option is to take ibruprofen as that also reduces swelling. And keep it elevated. But, time is your best bet, IMHO. Yes, if the swelling is not in a location where it will bother you, they can still activate. They talked about me going ahead with my activation 8 days after my original surgery, and on the same day as my follow-up surgery. But I decided patience was my best virtue. LOL I know of a person who still was uncomfortable when wearing the processor initially, so she just clipped the processor to her hair, leaving the magnet to connect to the implant. worked well for her until she was comfortable wearing the processor.  so there are ways around it.  ________________________________ From: yaegr <yaegr@...> Sent: Fri, June 11, 2010 2:47:28 PM Subject: Activation and swelling  To Trish, Did you have your activation Thursday? How did it go? To all, How long does it take for the swelling to go down? Is there anything one can do to help it go down? Do they activate you when there is still swelling where the implant is? Guest guest
Believe it or not, bobby, I still ahve a tiny bit of swelling. but not much. Everyone is different. I'd say as long as the magnet sticks they willa ctivate it. Have a great day! Debbie Cole From: yaegr <yaegr@...> Subject: Activation and swelling Date: Friday, June 11, 2010, 7:47 PM  To Trish, Did you have your activation Thursday? How did it go? Guest guest
That reminded me, Debbie, that even at my 30 month checkup I was able to move down to a smaller magnet...so I'm guessing that sometimes these things still take time to reduce swelling...it's hard to believe it would take that long. But I remember my audi testing the site to make sure the magnet was the right strength, and she said I could go with a lighter one. Amazing... You are a true inspiration Debbie!! You go girl!!  ________________________________ From: DEBORAH COLE <deborah_anne419@...> Sent: Fri, June 11, 2010 4:34:52 PM Subject: Re: Activation and swelling  Believe it or not, bobby, I still ahve a tiny bit of swelling. but not much. Everyone is different. I'd say as long as the magnet sticks they willa ctivate it. Guest guest
Hi Bobbi, Yes, I had my activation yesterday I am all smiles! It is wonderful to be able to hear sounds again <G> I've been having a blast all day, heard the birds singing this morning, listened to the radio in the car, been watching tv with the sound on <G> Of course everything sounds very alien right now, but the more I concentrate the more sounds begin to make sense. I cannot understand speech at this point, but every now & then a word or phrase makes sense to me. I know things will come along, just need to be patient Thanks for asking! How did your surgery go? When is your activation date? I hope the swelling goes soon for you. Trish > > To Trish, > Did you have your activation Thursday? Guest guest
Trish, that is wonderful news. I am so happy for you and can feel your joy. As they say, full hearing takes time, however, you have had an excellent beginning. My surgery went well and my activation is scheduled for next Tuesday. Continue your excellent progress and keep in touch as the words and sentences come through and especially as any surprise sounds show up. Guest guest
Holly had her first surgery Dec 18th. First follow up with the surgeon on the 23rd. She had some swelling and some fluid build up. She was still having dizzy spells and ringing in the ear. Surgeon told her to sit still and turn her head from side to side often to get rid of the dizzy spells. Her activation was Jan 4th. Voices sounded computerized and gave her a bad case of the giggles. She has a pre-op appointment Jul 15th and next surgery is Jul 30th, with first post op on Aug 11th. Activation is not scheduled yet. I am getting tired of all the driving, but it is well worth it. We drive 2 1/2 hours each way. Of course, we always go to lunch in Springfield while there. > > I'm 15 days post surgery and my doctor says I'm still swollen and that's to be expected but I was activated on day 13 post surgery. > > > > > > Activation and swelling > > > > > To Trish, > Did you have your activation Thursday?
