Guest guest
I was hooked up 11 days after surgery, and I got a Freedom. I think it depends more on the doctor and what he/she chooses to put on the wound (stitches or " glue " ) than the brand of implant. Sent from my BlackBerry Smartphone provided by Alltel Post surgical recovery question A couple people on this list who got Med-El EAS CIs reported that they were hooked up within 8 days of surgery. It seems that those getting AB or Freedom CIs must heal 4 weeks before getting hooked up. What account for this difference? Bonnie
Guest guest
It depends on how quickly the incision heals. If you have a body worn processor (versus a behind the ear processor) they are usually willing to hook up sooner, since the body worn processor is not putting extra weight on the incision. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I've heard some surgeons are allowing activation of the Freedom as early as five days after surgery now. I went bilateral (Freedoms) in April and only had to wait two weeks for activation. Like someone else said, it is what the surgeon is comfortable with. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, It depends on the center not the manufacturer as to how long you wait after surgery for activation. My center is a month regardless if you receive the Med El, Advanced Bionics or the Cochlear Device. Guest guest
Bonnie, You are incorrect and anyone that said that is wrong. The Study calls for a 4 week wait to be activated with the CI and then to be CI only for 4 weeks after that before the HA component is activated (hence the full EAS). This is a FDA study, protocols MUST BE FOLLOWED. End of story. Bruce > > A couple people on this list who got Med-El EAS CIs reported that they were hooked up within 8 days of surgery. Guest guest
Same for me. Activated for both (sequential) 7 days after surgery. Surgery on Monday back at work Wednesday. I had cleared my calendar of meetings for the week and I have a desk job. Attitude and willing to work hard are key in my opinion. Good luck! Guest guest
I was given an option to be activated a week after my surgery, but decided to wait until 3 weeks after. My clinic says it depends on the patient, how far away they have to travel, etc. ________________________________ From: railfocus <adams@...> Sent: Sunday, May 31, 2009 11:01:13 AM Subject: Post surgical recovery question A couple people on this list who got Med-El EAS CIs reported that they were hooked up within 8 days of surgery.
