Guest guest
I starting taking Lexapro almost 2 weeks ago... 5mg for the first week then 10mg after that. I have not been on any other drugs for depression before. The first couple days I tried taking it in the morning, and I would pass back out for about 4 hours, even if I had woken up earlier feeling fine and refreshed. But my doctor had told me that it might make me drowsy so then to just take it at night, which I started doing since then... however now I have the problem that I go to sleep but always wake up after about 5 hours of sleep and have real trouble getting back to sleep. (I never had any trouble sleeping through the night before, and this has been every night.) I only know this because once in my younger and stupider days I tried ecstasy once, but that is what it reminds me of after I wake up-- I feel all on edge and speeded up and would wake up and find I'd been clenching my jaws, which I don't normally do. Another side effect is that my libido is non existent. But by the afternoon I feel fine. (In the mornings I'm usually tired since I couldn't get back to sleep for an hour or two so my sleep is messed up.) I can definitely tell it's having an effect on my mood already. The question is, will the side effects diminish over time (and after how long)? Not just the drowsiness/waking issues but the sexual side effects as well. I like the effect of this drug otherwise but want to know if it's worth continuing to see if the side effects to go away, or if I should try other drugs to find something that I tolerate better. I have a follow-up visit with my doctor in another week and a half so hopefully he'll be able to help answer these questions too, but I wanted some other Lexapro users' advice from your experiences. Thanks!!
