Guest guest
Hello : I would suggest you give it some time (maybe as long as six weeks!) before deciding.....I had the opposite effect and it caused me insomnia! If you have not seen my prior postes, I had been on various SSRI's for the past 5+ years before starting Lex which I stayed with for about 8 mos. I finally decided I wanted off completely and stopped over a 6-8 wk period...that was over 5 months ago now. I will say that out of the many I tried, Lex was more easily tolerated in my case...Always talk to your Doc first before doing anything!!!! BTW: there is no magic bullet I am aware of...SSRI's are supposed to make it easier to cope! Many have had different experiences with these meds and we each react differently! regards jeff > I am on day 6 of Lexapro (10 mg). I am SOOOO tired. I've switched my dosage > to before bed. Guest guest
Hi , I can honestly say I am happy with Lex. But, I also know all of our chemical make ups are different and some respond to certain drugs, others to other drugs. Some have side effects, others have mild or none. I guess I would give your body a bit more time to adjust. In any new drug, there is an adjustment period, espcially in an anti-depressant. If down the line it doesn't work, then you can try something different. Many times it takes a trial of a couple different ones before finding the right one. I was on prozac for a lot of years and seemed to be Ok on it, but in reality it made me more of a zombie than I realized. I just thought that feeling was normal, but it was really not. I was not assertive at all, and that is also my personality by nature, but the prozac kept me from even trying to work on that. I was just content to let people run all over me. So, finally I took myself off of prozac and that helped me in that area. I still am not that way by nature, but I do have the desire now to make sure I don't get stepped on. But, without the prozac, I couldn't totally hack it in the depression department and the anxiety department. I had crying jags. I also became agitated more easily- like when teachers at school were being stupid. I realize that is part of life, and they need to be talked to sometimes, but witout the lex, I would let my agitation show to a degree that it ended up bothering my kids-- exactly what I was trying to avoid in being unhappy with the teachers in the first place. So, I went to the doc and said Prozac didn't cut it- now what. He told me the lex was really just a minor version of the big guns, but enough to help with that anxiety and depression I was feeling. I had to give it time to even out. While I switched to night time to get rid of sleepiness, I cannot remember my sleepiness persisting so long that it became a problem. However, we all have that different chemical make up. I'd say, give it some more time. Ask your doctor how long he/she anticipates this sleepiness to last. You may get a time frame that you may have to allow yourself to wait out to find out for sure. Good luck and keep us posted!! We care a lot! Guest guest
Hi and Jeff: I am new to the forum but this post caught my eye right off the bat. I have been on Lex for about six months and I, too, suffer from insomnia from the medication as well as horrendous gastro/intestinal side effects. Lexapro does work alittle quicker than alot of other medications but you are still in the " loading dose " stage where your body is adapting to the medication and building up the tolerance level. Depending on when you take the medication, you may find switching the time of day may help you out a tad bit also. For example, if you take at bedtime, and you find you're still " zonked out " in the morning, try taking it with your evening meal, alittle earlier in the evening. If you take it in the a.m. then try taking it around noon or 2 p.m. Sometimes this helps you adjust better. Good luck and hang in there. > > I am on day 6 of Lexapro (10 mg). I am SOOOO tired. Guest guest
I like Lex. No more debilitating panic attacks for ole Thee. Thea Are you happy with Lex I am on day 6 of Lexapro (10 mg). I am SOOOO tired. I've switched my dosage to before bed. I've been reading some of the old posts. I read people saying it took 1 week to 8 weeks for the sleepiness to disappear. I've also read people stopping the Lex because of sexual side effects, etc. Is anyone happy with the results of Lex? I'm not sure how long I should try it. I don't have panic attacks (at least I don't think I do) -- just depression. I was on Prozac for 6 months about 7 or 8 years ago. No meds before that or since -- until now. Stopped the Prozac because I felt like a zombie -- always tired. Feel that way now on Lex. I've been struggling with depression for many months now, and I guess I expected a " miracle " with the meds. So far, the only change I've noticed is that I'm MORE tired. Just want to know if anyone is seeing results. I'm feeling discouraged. ´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´*
