I am currently trying to wean myself off Lexapro but I noticed that when I don't

take it for 2 or 3 days I will feel lightheaded and kinda woozy and I don't like

that feeling at all. I heard of people getting brain zaps as they are weaning

themselves off and I think I had that happen to me as well. So far I havn't been

able to wean myself off successfully.

I'm on 40 mg right now and have just cut back to 30mg.

Yes, I just finished weaning off. But I was only on

109 mg. but for over a year. For me, it was not as

hard as I thought it would be. It took longer than

when I was on the Zoloft. I would say it took me about

two months to get off it but slowly. Keep tapering and

you should be fine.

To wean off - you need to sit and schedule a pattern

of how you are going to do it. Speak with your doctor

about tapering off slowly. You cannot take one tablet

one day and skip two or three days because you will

get those brain zaps. Ask your doctor to help you.

Since I was on only 10mg, I took that for about one to

two weeks, then started a every other day regimen and

so forth and so on. You simply cannot skip and expect

to feel fine. It has to be a slow process. Hope this

helps. p.s. I had help with my doctor with this. I

feel fine now. Normal. I exercise a lot and it keeps

me going.

I'm 7 weeks Lex free, and consider myself completely weaned off Lex.

I

had been on 20 mg/day. My weaning schedule was 15 days at 10 mg.,

then

15 days at 5 mg., then off completely. I never experienced the so-

called brain zaps. I haven't noticed any depression symptoms which

leads me to believe that I was misdiagnosed in the first place and

never should have been put on Lex. However, my dr. prescribed it at

a

time that I was very vulnerable as I was having an anxiety reaction

which was related to a cough medicine I had been taking when I had

the

flu - Phenergan with codeine elixir. I'll never take that again!

I have tried to get off antidepressants many times because of the

numbing sex effects. More power to you I can't seem to stay off

them. I get real edgy

I was on Lexapro for 2 years and just got off of it. I noticed

after a certain aount of time it just did not seem as effective

anymore. It took about 6 weeks to get out of my system. You

generally feel like you have the flu, sometimes you have dizziness,

headaches, nausea, and I have experienced vertigo. One thing I

noticed helped quite a bit was to go walking or do some exercise

everyday to get the blood moving through my body and brain. I would

feel very foggy somedays, like I just could not function or think,

and when I started a little physical activity everday it helped with

this. I know it is hard to motivate yourself when you are already

depressed, and the withdrawal makes it worse. But if you can, it

does help...

Are you taking Lex or Celexa. I have never heard of someone taking

40mg of Lex, I have heard of 40mg for Celexa. I thought 20 was

basically the max on Lexapro... If it is Celexa, it is just as

tough.

Hi

I am new on Lezapro -about 2 months. I have already gained weight and after

gaining weight on paxil, I am wondering if there is something else to take that

would counter-act this weight gain. I hate to go off the lexapro because it is

working. If someone knows of a way to stop the weight gain please post it. For

now I am going to head back to the gym and hope it works because it didnt with

the paxil

I have been on Lexapro for about 6 weeks now and although I haven't weighed

myself, I suspect I'm gaining a little weight. One thing that is

contributing to the weight gain is that I am eating better and have more of

an appetite. I'm not suggesting that you stop eating, but for me, that

would be the logical solution. I'm just going to exercise instead.

---I do believe many doctors are using Lexapro and Wellebutrin

in combo, I guess in hopes of counteracting the side-effects

of one another. But I do believe many doctors(psychiatrists in

particular) overprescribe medication, even for those who don't really

need it. The last psychiatrist wanted to put me on a multitude of

meds(powerful meds with tons of side effects I may add) and I refused

to do it. You have to remember these doctors are getting kick backs

from the drug companies when they prescribe all of these medications,

so they are not thinking of your benefit as much as they are their

own.(sad, but true) I will not go to a psychiatrist anymore for this

reason. My trusted family physician prescribes all of my medication.

As for the weight gain, I was on Paxil for about 2-3 years(I am off

now), and I still have not been able to get the weight off(even

though I am dieting and exercising). If anyone has had any success

in getting the weight off, I would like to hear it.
