Guest guest
NOOOO...definitely not. The changes are BECAUSE of the Lexapro and will not " stick " after discontinuing use. Some people take anti-depressants to get over a hard period of thier life and as a bridge to enable them to learn new coping skills and change some attitudes and behaviors.....perhaps this is what Tammy is referring to? But as for the effects of the Lexapro becoming permanent after taking it for a year...that will never happen. I will need medication for life - despite working on my coping skills for years, it is the biochemical effect meds have on my brain that I need. Tammy, please research a bit more to understand what you are hoping the medicaiton will do for you. I hate to think you will be dissapointed after discontinuing the Lexapro because you go back to feeling bad. I've never heard about it making permanent changes. Guest guest
Hey there all, This is Tammy again, I called my doctor and asked her to refresh me on what she had said about the after a year stuff, and she told me that the reason I am taking it is to help the seratonin get back to normal, and after a year of taking this, (i am on 10 mg) she said that most people not all do notice that that helps but in more severe cases it may take longer or a stronger dose. I hope that it is true that the serotonin will be locked in to where it needs to be. I am not a doctor and dont understand it too much but hopefully she is right. IF not I guess I will try and get some valium for my condition. I am fine except for when I get around large groups of people or even just one person, i get this fight or flight its called and panicky. and as little as I get my self in that situation you think just a small bottle of valium would be fine and just use it when I need it. I was hoping for that instead of lexapro but figured doctor knows best. I am open to any comments and suggestions. Lots of love and happy new year to all of my new friends here at Lexapro. Guest guest
I was on Celexa for about 14 months and so far so good. The permanent thing does not apply to everyone. It has to do with whether or not you've suffered from symptoms your entire life etc. I crashed and burned about 6 months before I sought help. I'm hopeful that for me it was an aberation and I won't have to go back on anything like that again. *But*....I felt so bad that if I was ever faced with it again I'd run, not walk, to my doc and be put back on it. And it wouldn't take me 6 months of agony first, either! Barbara Been on Lexapro since August faithfully. > I notice a genuine change in my attitude. Guest guest
I read, and I can't remember where it came from, that the Celexa and Lexapro reset the serotonin levels in the brain. For some people that's a permanent change. The levels get screwed up by severe, prolonged stress. And as we all react differently to stress what might push me over the edge wouldn't bother someone else. I think our perceptions have alot to do with it also.
