i used to take zelnorm too... i dont know why the lex would be affecting the

zelnorm.. infact, i've talked to a gastroenterologist who said that lex is one

of the antidepressants that can potentially help with IBS... i think that

zelnorm and lexapro actually have some similar effects.. but perhaps if you have

an added side effect from lexapro.. such as anxiety.. it might be contributing

to the IBS.. hrm. how is it going? are you still taking the zelnorm?

  • 3 years later...

IBS can and often lasts 24hrs or more for me. During that time I

usually cannot eat or drink anything. Even water puts my colon into

another spasm. The only drug that can stop it and shorten the

duration for me is Librax.

I was given Belladonna for bladder spasms after a kidney stone was

removed. It did help me but I was told it is a very strong drug and

only given out sparingly.

There are many drugs prescribed for IBS/colons spasms that can be

taken more routinely. I would question this doctors choice. Good luck

and feel better.

I have IBS although after a GI doc that I don't think she knew what she was doing because she gave me 3 colonoscopys and never a diagnosis, I have never received any tx for it, and I have had constant diarrhea since feb. this year, although I now work for a docs office so I hoping that they will be able to perscribe me something for this horrible disease. Good Luck to you I hope you feel some releif very soon, it STINKS sitting on the toilet all day you might want to hook your computer or TV in there until you feel better--LOL
