Guest guest
Hello, I recently had what used to be called a " Nervous Breakdown " and I am very scared and depressed. I went to see a psychopharmacologist and he wants me to get onto Lexapro. Despite some history of psychiatric troubles (I'm 52), I've never tried antidepressants and one part of me would love to see if I can avoid being medicated in this way. I am open to all opinions and people's personal experiences about getting onto Lexapro, getting off Lexapro, feeling better, and healing. Thank You. Guest guest
Sometimes a short term run (say 6 months) of an AD can help get you on the right track along with various therapies. And keep in mind that there are alot of different AD's out there and if Lexapro doesn't seem to be a good fit there are others. And one of them will work well for you. In sympathy I can say I've been where you are. Not fun. But it is beatable. When I was at this point I felt like I had nothing left to lose. And the medication made a huge difference in my life. Give it a try and if it doesn't work be very vocal with your doc(s) and and let him/her/them know. You have to work with them. Welcome to the group! Guest guest
I was on Lexapro for two years and loved it. It made my anxiety copable so that I could go about my life, cope with my job and my personal life, and take things more in stride. Once I felt strong again, I weaned off the Lexapro (no problems at all getting off it) and have been off it for two years now and am coping far better than I did pre-Lexapro. So, it got me through a tough period, and seems to be working now even though I'm not taking it(!).  --Diane From: Barbara <bjarrett@...> Subject: Re: Thinking of Taking Lexapro Lexapro Date: Thursday, June 3, 2010, 11:16 PM  Sometimes a short term run (say 6 months) of an AD can help get you on the right track along with various therapies.
