Guest guest
Has anyone ever experienced a blackout when drinking alcohol and taking Lex? I drank excessively this weekend (I know I shouldn't but it happened) and blacked out. I was told that I became violently uncontrollable during this time. I would really like to know if this was due to the medication. Any feedback (except a lecture on how I shouldn't be drinking) would be greatly appreciated! Not too bright are we?? Guest guest
Did I come on here and insult any posts that you made? No. I would appreciate the same courtesy. I know that this wasn't the best decision I've ever made and don't need someone like you to remind me. Didn't anyone ever teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all? > > Has anyone ever experienced a blackout when drinking alcohol and > taking Lex? Guest guest
I don't recall asking anyone for any sympathy. As a matter of fact, I DO recall making the statement that I know it wasn't a wise decision. ? The whole reason I asked not to have any responses from anyone lecturing me on drinking was to avoid this. I only want to know if this has happened to anyone else. Do you have a drinking problem. A 10 yr. old knows that you don't mix ANY med with alcohol. You did a VERY dumb thing, and you will probably do it again. Guest guest
Seriously, we've all made mistakes in our lives. I'm just glad that no one got hurt in the process. I have no idea if your blackout and violence was due to the medication. Have you blacked out before? Gotten violent? But I can tell you that all antidepressants lower your ability to metabolize alcohol. So basically think of one drink as two drinks. If you think of it that way then you drank even more excessively than you thought. Doubling your binge is definitely enough to bring on a blackout. As for the violence, I don't know. But years of working on a college campus taught me that everyone has a different reaction to blackouts. Some get wild and crazy. Others get violent. Others get all clingy. I get all mother-y making sure everyone else is okay. Now that you know that yout blackouts cause violent episodes you have double the reason to be careful from now on. It would be terrible if you hurt someone. Sounds like you know not to do it again. Just cut back on the alcohol a lot. No more bingeing. And that should solve the blackout problem. Guest guest
Jen, Thank you for your insight and advice. I sincerely appreciate it and can tell you that I absolutely know better now! I have never done this before and have certainly never blacked out from drinking. It scares me...thankfully I was with family and no one was hurt. It has certainly taught me quite a lesson. > > > > Has anyone ever experienced a blackout when drinking alcohol and > > taking Lex? Guest guest
So apparently you think it's okay for someone to tell me I'm stupid? Someone who I have never met and doesn't know me? Im sorry but you are stupid. Did someone physically take the liquor and dump it into your system or did you do it? Im assuming YOU did it knowing you were on the Lex and in my book this makes you stupid! Just don't do it again...hopefully you learned your lesson. Guest guest
Yes, when I used to drink alcohol (recovery 4 yr. now) with lexapro, I ended up in complete blackouts, and ended up in the hospital many times because of it. Thank goodness, I found recovery. Alcohol mixed with any other drugs, will effect your brain. Thank god, your ok! Suzi ncsaakes <ncsaakes@...> wrote: I don't recall asking anyone for any sympathy. Guest guest
My Doc said not to drink with Lex, not because of an interaction with the drug, but because the next day or day after, I would feel like sh** because alcohol plays with the serotonin level.....for what it's worth.... ncsaakes <ncsaakes@...> wrote: Has anyone ever experienced a blackout when drinking alcohol and taking Lex? Guest guest
Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone else has experienced increased affects of alcohol while on Lexapro? I was only on the lexapro for a few weeks when i had a few drinks (which i know it's not recommended you do on anti-depressants) and became extremely drunk to the point of vomiting. Something that has only ever happened to me twice before in my life (I'm 30 and have done my fair share of drinking). I was previously on zoloft but it stopped worked so i switched to lexapro. While on the zoloft i didn't notice it increasing the effects of alcohol at all. I have since stopped the lexapro, tried citalopram (which seemed to work for about a week but then i became depressed again), and gone back on lexapro. But I am currently very concerned about the possibility of drinking while on this medication. I have also been struggling while being back on the Lexapro with drowsiness for a few hours after taking it but made the switch to taking it at night. Anyone else get drowsy after taking theirs? Anyone else have similar experiences??? Geogie xo
Guest guest
The effects when drinking can go either way. For me I could drink a large amount while taking Celexa. More than I normally could. Others have said exactly what you have. So if it affects you this way I'd advise not drinking for the duration. ;-) Barbara Lexapro and Alcohol Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone else has experienced increased affects of alcohol while on Lexapro? Guest guest
I think you also have to worry about the effects you don't see, I'm not sure about Lex, but alot of drugs are hard on the liver, you add liquor to that its bad news. Guest guest
Good point. Many SSRI's are hard on the liver. Not being a drinker normally, I don't always think of those kinds of things. Guest guest
Thanks. It's really been pure Hell. With no end in sight....and now the drug rep who gives my Dr. the Lex says they aren't giving it out anymore... I've been getting samples all this time. I have no insurance. So the Rx is $120 a month!!!! It may be going generic but nobody knows anything Thanks, Tim....Good luck to you. Guest guest
I have been on lex for almost a year . I also drink alot and have had total blackouts. Its scary not to know how you got to a certain place especially driving there. Just six months ago I attempted suicide after coming in one night from drinking. I recently switched to Sertraline and havent drank since that night. My point is that drinking and SSRIs are a deadly combo. It was uncharacteristic of me to try to kill myself. I have a good job, married 20yrs and 2 great kids. I want to get off my " antidepressant " not only cause of the suicide risk , but because of other side effects, thanks for listening. > > From: Carol Vail <elvisrocks1@ comcast.net> > Subject: Re: Lexapro and Alcohol > Lexapro@groups .com > Date: Thursday, January 29, 2009, 9:54 PM > > well i drink wine and i have been on lex for 5 years... > idk if it makes a difference.. . my husband has died > and i have lost my business and about to lose my > house, so the fact that i haven't jumped off a > bridge is a great commercial for Lexapro IMO. > > Lexapro and Alcohol > > Hi guys, > > Just wondering if anyone else has experienced increased affects of > alcohol while on Lexapro?
