Guest guest
Nanci,2 things jumped out at me when I read your post. 1)your husband in saying " " quit all the poisons " is cause for concern. If you are not abusing drugs,or unless he is a Doctor, with a contrary diagnosis, with extensive knowledge in pharmacology and contra-indicated medications, in my opinion,SHOULD NOT be calling the shots. 2) He is " not supportive and would not take you " indicating that he has full control over where you go. I am going to try to find something I posted awile ago,I do know what you are going through. There are some similarities. welcome to the group girl.you are not alone > > > > Hi everyone, > > I have been going through a very rough time for a few months since losing my smell and taste after a cold and it never came back. its called anosmia. > I was put on Buspar and that made me so sick with more anxiety, diarrhea, and a whole host of other side effects. I can't even function. I want to stop the drug, all drugs. I don't know what to do anymore. My husband is against drugs and tells me to just quit all the poisons. > > My question is this...are these terrible side effects normal and would it get better? also, can you just stop if you have been on it like me for such a short time. what should I do, stop, taper, stay on (if I knew side effects like I am having would stop) > > I spoke with pdoc and she told me she never had a patient with such terrible side effects and go to ER, but I know what they do there, put you on benzos. Guest guest
I was on Lexapro for two years, and it cut my anxiety level in half. It does take at *least* three weeks for your body to adjust to the Lexapro: after that, your side effect symptoms should go away and you'll notice a drastic decrease in your anxiety level. At least that is how it was for me, but I was one of those ones who Lexapro worked *really* well for -- it doesn't necessarily for everybody.  Good luck!  --Diane From: plagal <plagal@...> Subject: Re: New to group and need some advice-medications/Lexapro Lexapro Date: Monday, January 10, 2011, 11:07 PM  Nanci,2 things jumped out at me when I read your post. 1)your husband in saying " " quit all the poisons " is cause for concern. Guest guest
I'm no expert having only just started taking one of these drugs (Celexa) a short time ago but from what I read there are short term side effects that often go away as your body adjusts. *I think? headaches etc seem to be common *At least with you and I. SIGH... This is a guy thing (I think.) The idea that you should be " able " to tough it out and so forth. Men and doctors are not often a good mix. The problem is that this attitude really makes no sense. If you have a heart attack are you supposed to " walk it off? " If you have diabetes are you supposed to just " suck it up and be a man? " Medical problems need medical solutions. My doctor made the observation that most men never come in unless it's an emergency Women tend to get regular physicals and try to take care of themselves. So... Women live longer. Is there any question why? ;-) Mental health issues are not different from a " medical " issue (Both are medical I think but...) Talk therapy might make it seem different but when you have a good doctor your getting " talk " to help you take care of yourself - just the same. Except its more direct and specific perhaps. I would talk to the doctor the side effects. They may just treat the symtoms of the side effects for a while until your body settles down and gets used to the drug. If not? There are a lot of alternative meds. Good luck and tell me how it goes. > > > >
