Guest guest
The anxiety, or depression if that is what one is being treated for, comes from a brain chemical imbalance. Namely serotonin in cases where SSRI's work. SSRI = Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Lex works by restoring the balance. I take a dual uptake inhibitor that works on norepinephrine as well as serotonin. Celexa (the parent drug of Lexapro) didn't work well for me. Effexor does. It's simply one of those differences where not every drug works the same for each person. As I said, the nausea shouldn't last more than a few days if that. If it does you may need a different AD (Anti Depressant). As far as effects it should get rid of the extreme anxiety. It shouldn't mask legitimate anxiety such as what you feel before going to the dentist, for instance. But it should get rid of that fear that you can't find a reason for and seems to rule your life. And yes! This med does work. But I will state again that it doesn't work for everyone. That doesn't mean you give up. It means you talk to your doc and try and different drug, that's all. Being alone can cause anxiety. But when it gets out of hand it's impossible to live with. It's nice that you have a bit of help with the younger kids. I did too and it was such a blessing! Guest guest
The nausea won't last too long I don't think. 5 mg is a pretty small dose, in fact 10 mg is pretty small. When you are on it for a few days you will feel like you will not really notice that you're on it. Hang in there Theresa smileytm <teresamiller3@...> wrote: Barbara, Thanks for the reply I just took the 5mg of Lexapro. I was wondering how long the nausea will last. I am hoping I will be fine. I am home with three kids alone. My husband took a fishing trip to Alamaba since this past Tuesday. That is what has also triggered my anxiety being home with the kids. My oldest is 14 and by youngest is 17 months. I spaced all three of my kids 6 years apart. He can help me. I figured I was being nausea with or with out the medicine so why not. Okay does this medicine really work. What exactly will it do to help my anxiety? Thanks, , Kentucky > > 5mg as a starting dose is fine. In about a week to two weeks you need to go up to 10 and the same for 20 if that's the top-out dose your doc wants you on. The nausea shouldn't last too terribly long. A few days maybe. It's different for everyone. > > I wasn't sure if you were asking how long the nausea lasts or the Lex. Guest guest
, Your nausea may not be coming from the meds. Anyway hope u feel better. smileytm <teresamiller3@...> wrote: I didn't get that nausea last night. This morning I feel bad again. I am fixing to get out with my mom. Guest guest
Have you tried eating some yogurt? That can help. Also, whenever I feel nauseated, I eat an apple, and that helps a lot, at least for me. Sprite, 7-Up or Ginger Ale, too. And soda crackers are supposed to be good for nausea. Just think of it as being in the early stages of pregnancy...LOL. Colleen smileytm <teresamiller3@...> wrote: I didn't get that nausea last night. This morning I feel bad again. Guest guest
*smacks forehead* How could I forget this??? For many people when they're first starting SSRI's drinking a lot of water helps. I mean a lot. It alleviates the side effects. Barbara Any one please help me #2!!!!!!!!! > > > > > > Just wanted to check in for today. I did get to go to work. Guest guest
It would seem that you have a fixation on food. The thing would be to determine if the anxiety has caused this or if this has caused the anxiety. You probably won't feel much from the Lex until you go up to 10 mg. You'll begin to feel a bit better and when you go on to 20 even better. Use the Vistaril your doc gave you. It's for anxiety and nausea I would think, in your case. Although I'm not a doctor, from what you've said so far that's what comes to mind. Just be aware that it can cause drowsiness. Guest guest
If I ever start taking the chemo for hepatitis C, I will need to drink lots and lots of water. I hear it helps with the side effects, which can be very, very bad with interferon and ribavirin. I'm supposed to drink a lot of water anyway because of chronic kidney stones. Guest guest
Ouch! Kidney stones. *shudder* I've never had one but I know people that have. I'd rather give birth. Guest guest
Yes, a few of the ones I've had were far worse than giving birth. I've had two lithotripsies and also had one that the urologist had to go in and get with a little tiny basket through the ureter. I've also had some that passed on their own with much pain, and one or two that must have been very small, for they were more silent. Colleen Barbara <bjarrett@...> wrote: Ouch!
