Hi,

I just did a little online research about Viagra, and wow are those

pills expensive!! And yep you're right it's not generic yet.

Apparently seven years from when Viagra went on the market is when

others can come out with generics.

One board where men were discussing different meds these two meds came

up: Cialis (Lilly ICOS) and Levitra (GlaxoKline, Bayer

Pharmaceuticals). I have no clue if they're more or less expensive.

Have you talked to your doc about the sexual side effects? There

might be another antidepressant out there that doesn't affect you as

much sexually. Or he might have a suggestion of another type of ED

drug that's cheaper.

As for the Lexapro, there are no studies out there that test the

effectiveness of only 5 mg of Lexapro. The pharmaceutical company

only tested 10mg and 20mg. So generally docs don't prescribe less

than 10. They'll have you start out on 5 so that your body can get

used to it gradually and then bump you up. But your doc would have

more ideas than I do about which drugs won't have as many negative

side effects for you.

I would definitely talk to my doc. I can understand where you're

coming from in terms of the sexual side effects. Lexapro definitely

killed my libido. But I've been on other antidepressants that didn't

affect me as much in that department. My sex drive was less, but at

least it was still there. So I'm sure there's some solution out there

for you.

Good luck,

Jen :)

I thought Lexapro was the only antidepressant out there which is least

likely to affect you sexually, in terms of sexual side effects. I'm

not sure about the specifics such as libido etc. Least that's what I

heard. As for an antidepressant that's supposed to help. Wellbutrin

is supposed to help in the sexual department.

Lexapro is not generic yet either, and it's a lot more expensive than the two

other drugs I take, one for thyroid and one for blood pressure. The Lexapro is

$96 and my copay of that is $30, every month.

havin sexual side effects on lexapro isn't uncommon.

I don't have a sex partner but I have noticed the

problem with ejaculation. There is another option

that I was looking into and it is a medication called

selegiline. look it up on wikipedia. You may have to

stop the lexapro for a while but talk to your doctor

and pharmacist first. The latter may be more

reputable than a doctor.

Yeah, every drug they come out with supposedly has less chance of

sexual side effects than the last. But it just decreases the chance

that the drug will have the side effects. You can still get'em. I'm

just " lucky " when it comes to Lexapro, I guess. (big sigh)

Wellbutrin hasn't helped me with the sex stuff. But it could just be

that I'm on such a strong dose of both meds that there's no chance for

the Wellbutrin to kind of counteract the Lexapro. Maybe I'll be able

to cut back on my Lexapro eventually and then the Wellbutrin can do

it's thing in the love life department. :) That would be nice.
