Guest guest
Anyone out there a former Zoloft user? Wondering how Lexapro works in comparison.
Guest guest
I compared being on Zoloft as " Instead of being poked with a sharp stick, you're being poked with a dull one. " I've found Lexapro to be very helpful. I don't know about the fatigue aspect because I have fibromyalgia, so fatigue is natural. But my sister actually had more energy while being on it. Weight gain on it seems pretty certain in my family. There has been 4 females and 2 males in my family that have been on it. One discontinued over weight gain, one due to fatigue, 2 because it became ineffective, and one due to a variety of other side effects. But I haven't known anyone outside of my family that has been on it. > > Anyone out there a former Zoloft user? Guest guest
Yes I took Zoloft for 6 months. It quit working after 6 months. I've been on Lexapro 2 years and love it. Guest guest
Zoloft worked well with me, but I stopped taking it because I became too paranoid of the weight gain. I did gain a lot of weight, although one of my doctors swears that it wasn't because of the Zoloft. I started taking Lexapro almost 2 weeks ago. So far, I'm not really seeing any kind of results. I realize these things take time, but I've had 2 doctors tell me that it usually starts working in a week or so. Unfortunately, I had a severe anxiety attack last Friday so I guess my sense of urgency is now a little higher than normal. My OB/GYN said that I could go ahead and up the dosage from 10 mg to 20 mg. So I guess I'll try that and see how it goes. I'm really hoping, however, that the Lexapro works out for me, because I just don't want to go back to Zoloft. Guest guest
Lexapro is better in terms of safety and sideeffects . Zoloft is associated with hundreds of cases of self harm and Agresssion , which the manufacturers have not released to the FDA only until recently . Celexa and lexapro are far safer . Guest guest
alison .... thank you. from what i am reading it is inevitable not to gain weight. i was an advid gym goer until things took a turn, and i started to fall into a depression. in the past i was always able to fight the depression by working out but i wasn't finding enjoyment in that either. i hope to get back to the gym which in turn will take me off the lex. tks agan. wsg Alison J Rosenberg <crazydaizy@...> wrote: HI yes I have been on both. lexapro had no side effects for me but also did not work for my severe anxiety disorders. I gained weight on both drugs . zoloft did help some with the anxiety but only with the general. not with panic or PTSD . BUT i got VERY sick on zoloft with gasto stuff ( reflux) and had to go off. It was that or get admitted to hospital for the reflux .It was like an allergy maybe. Going off zoloft was a nightmare compared to going off lexapro i weaned off little by little as one is supposed to with both ( and actually more slow then is recommended) With going off zoloft i had crazy panic attacks ( many an hour) for months while going of lexapro was not an issue .As the other poster that responded said. I also have fibromylasia so i get fatigue and it is hard to tell if there was any from the meds as i suffer with that on or off the A/D drugs. I am also in pain management and those narcotics create some tiredness as well. I am now nto on anything btu having severe panic . they want my on celexa and i wish i had info on that cause at this time i have to change Dr's as my psychiatrist violated ( or tried to violate. ) my rights to privacy . I am nto starting new meds with no Dr on the case. In the meantime i am enjoying loosing the weight from the meds even as i eat cake DO remember though, that each person and their body reacts differently with meds so while i know it helps to get experiences ( i always ask for them too ) yours may be totally different then mine or any one elses .. My reflux with the zoloft seems to be a great example. my dr did not think it possible my reflux issue was from the zoloft. I knew it was. I went off and serious suffering from the reflux problem was cured. I mean to say that though certain side effects seem to be more common with certain drugs it still does not mean you will have them .. In any case, Hope this helps some. ~ alison .
