I have been off lexapro for 3.5 weeks. (I was on 10mg. for 3 months) I had

severe brain shocks after 7 days off the Lexapro. It was extremely severe until

about 5+ days ago, and now I consider it mild. Still annoying but I can deal

with it's intensity. I feel GREAT! the funny thing is I don't know why I feel

really good now, I don't know if it is the herbs/vitamins/minerals etc. or just

getting over the brain shocks. (or maybe a teeny bit of lexapro residual??) I do

feel back like I did before taking it (in that when my kids are fighting I feel

the *temper*, on the lexapro nothing bothered me...I was MELLOW!) But, I feel

very very good for the most part, honestly better then on the lexapro. I sleep

well again (I definitely had some wonky sleep on the lex) and I just feel really

good 90% of the time.....

I can say I am at the end of week 3 and just have brain *shocks* mildly now. (I

lexapro doesnt seem to have any, and I do feel a little better. my problem is

all this talk of getting off of it is scary! I dont know if I want to take it

one more day! I dont want to gain weight but I do want back into my life. Does

any one have advice for that? > > > > > > >

Brain shocks are the main reason why you're supposed to wean off of Lexapro VERY

gradually.

yes, which is why I said *almost*. whether you go cold turkey after a few months

or wean over several months, you still have a VERY high chance of having many of

the withdrawal symtoms that are common to this drug. I cannot believe the things

I have learned about lexapro after going off of it. It should be on their

website that it takes 12-18 months for your brain to completely re-wire itself

(and that is even if you only take it for 21 days.) . Doctor's should be telling

their patients about all these cons. There are many people that are on Lexapro

that the PROS outweigh the cons, and for them (maybe you?) that is GREAT!!! I

am glad I found this group (and a few people going through the same things I am)

for support. After studying it, I really think this is a very heavy duty drug,

should not be prescribed for temporary stress, anxiety, etc. IMO...... The

things it does to your brain....I wa stold by my DR. that it only affected 1

part of the brain and THAT IS IT. (seratonin reuptake) NOPE, no way, uh uh.....

Sorry. That's simply not absolute. It's different for each person that takes

these drugs. A good wean-off should take several months. It *does* take several

months. I've weaned off both Celexa and Effexor XR. I had not the first brain

zap either time. It took me 4 months or so to wean off Celexa and about 2-3

months to wean off Effexor.

Most of what you see online is the bad stuff. Not the good stuff. If you're

feeling good and not having problems you don't post much if at all. What reason

do you have to post?

The brain isn't a machine. It's a biological organ. It doesn't have any wires.

Which medical website did you read these things on?

I dont know about rewiring, the receptors have to readjust, thats all as

far as we know. But the brain does form electrochemical pathways, like

organic wiring.
