I have been reluctant to say it, but even if I put everything into my career , I would resign if that is how the industry treated me, and even if I were on the outside watching my colleagues go through this, I would quit, quite possibly with a spit in a superior's face. I have personally lost all respect for the entire legal community for their lack of integrity, and now I learn the medical community is more of the same. The "abstinence" contract is cleary a prohibitionist's agenda, for now abstinence also means no cleaning your childrens dwelling or they'll take them, no eating pickles or you'll lose work, don't cut your lawn and if you have a wound, let it infect or we will incarcerate you! I, as a 33 year old man, had what I refer to as a "blow pig", a man came to my home to give me PBT's, How does that protect the public? IN MY HOME!!! Prohibition at a whole new level. After over 11,000 negatives, they now may be catching on, I advise all probationers to just take the time and get it over with, one month on SCRAM or one EtG test and sobriety is the least of your worries! Poverty, credit, homelessness, food, shelter, work, children, etc... and fighting the beast that took this from you is far more important than another day of abstinence!!Marcellus

My conditioner contains cetyl alcohol and cetearyl alcohol. I'm told that even if I do absorb any of it or breathe it, it is not metabolized to ethanol or EtG.

hi julie,sorry for your trouble and welcome...etg is a hypersensitive test that works off an obscure default liver pathway(glucuronidatation) accounting for only .5% of total liver function,yet our lives and careers hang in the balance of this inaccurate test due to fraudulent marketing to boards by labs and draconian use of the test by boards as the "gold standard" for relapse... we all absorb and ferment etoh,some more than others(us)...anything that presents more etoh to the liver(incidental exposure,med conditions like diabetes) or that degrades normal hepatic biochemical pathways(tylenol,other cp450 drugs) or both will increase etg...lysol is a big offender,but there are scads of other things like purel used by nurses,rubbing alchohol which is supposed to be ip but is in fact etoh...etoh in gas,etc.ad nauseum... try to figure out your etoh scource or drug or med

I have heard people talking about a link with losing weight, diabetes, and concentrated urine with positive etg. Link to losing weight: There have been a few people who have had problems with positives who have had gastric bypass surgery on this site. Whether there's a statistically significant correlation...I don't know. Nobody's keeping any stats. Seems possible, with altered GI absorption, changes in bacterial flora and possible endogenous alcohol production. Just a guess?

Link to diabetes: Don't know about this one.

Concentrated urine with EtG: There are at least 4 major EtG publications that recommend normalizing EtG level for creatinine (urine concentration). In CA, I don't think anybody's doing it. The lab tells me they can't do it--SAMHSA doesn't allow it. I suppose it's the MRO's job. I know it would have cut my level in half. I suppose my board, like yours, would argue that positive is positive, so why bother normalizing the level. If my 1100 had been cut in half, perhaps I would not have been suspended all this time and incurred the staggering legal fees that I am!

My RN friend has a gastric bypass(years ago) , she tested + for ?? on one occasion, met with the MRO in PA, he asked many questions about her HX of ETOH use, she stated that the last time she drank was years ago and she became ill and almost went to hosp, she stated that she is unable to consume ETOH due to the bypass, they let her go.....never turned her over to the legal dept...........we can only assume that her + was EtG since she was an opiate addict. My RN friend has a gastric bypass(years ago) , she tested + for ?? on one occasion, met with the MRO in PA, he asked many questions about her HX of ETOH use, she stated that the last time she drank was years ago and she became ill and almost went to hosp, she stated that she is unable to consume ETOH due to the bypass, they let her go.....never turned her over to the legal dept...........we can only assume that her + was EtG since she was an opiate addict.

I have heard people talking about a link with losing weight, diabetes, and concentrated urine with positive etg. When I mention this to the diversion board the said the only way it could be positive is I ingested alcohol.

yep, the only case I know of where they were civil, HOWEVER , she ended up going to burg for a hearing w/the state for an unrelated matter, they tried to tell her that it was her fault they put her in a specific monitoring unit, so I guess no one is immune to their wrath!!crssemc@... wrote: This was in PA???
