Guest guest
Ellen, I live in Muskegon, Michigan. I see a doctor at U of M. His name is Dr. Nostrandt. I have had very good results so far. I have had achalasia since 93. I've had 3 dilatations and so far I am doing very well. I have a long drive to get there but nobody in my area will treat me. Best of luck. Guest guest
HI Ellen: I live in Michigan and had surgery a year ago at the U of Michigan. My doctor is Yee and I recommend him very highly. Just went in for my yearly check up and got a clean bill of health. Dr. Yee is a very personable and respected doctor and is very concerned about his patients. If you'd like to know more about him, do let me know and I will give you more information. Guest guest
Hi Pennie, Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I rarely get over to the Detroit area That is awesome that your daughter has an excellent teacher! My daughter has a pretty good team that she works with over at her school, too. She goes to school 5 days a week all day, and it is helping quite a bit. Too bad I couldn't have that kind of success at home with her. She is very high functioning, but she demands a lot if not ALL attention from me. I hope this doesn't sound bad -because I don't mean it that way, but I have become one of her things that she has to control. She has a few ocd tendancies (plus adhd traits) So, if she can't control me every waking minute she gets anxious and acts out. I have been doing all that I can to counter-act this, but it is taking time. It is getting a little better with the combined efforts of school. I know this is supposedly taboo, but I am considering medication for her at this point. She is currently on clonidine to help her get to sleep, but I am even considering meds to help her get through the day. It is coming to the point that her controlling issues and her hyper-activity are beginning to get in the way of her learning, and is causing a lot of stress in the household. I NEVER thought I would get to the point of even considering meds, but with everything the way it is, here I am. So, that is our story in brief. Is your daughter hyper, controlling, or obsessive? Guest guest
Hi Diane, Thanks for replying. Boy, there sure are a lot of different medications out there all to treat the same thing, aren't there? Since I last posted, I have talked to our pediatritian, and he has decided to put her on paxil first. We were debating between paxil and a new treatment for adhd called stratera. We decided to go with the paxil because stratera doesn't come in liquid form(aly can't swallow pills) and it can't be broken up and mixed with something to make it easier to take. So, we are going with the paxil. I hope it will help with the impulsivity and the controlling tendancies. I am interested in the dexadrine now, too! It sounds like it worked wonders with your daughter, . I would like it if Aly could calm down and focus. I think she would do so much better. She is such a bright child, and I would love to see her reach her full potential. On dexadrine, she socialized well, she learned and now is up to her grade level, grade 3, isn't hyper and much more focused. Also her autistic tendencies/traits are not there on meds. We also had sleep issues but didn't want to put her on more meds so she needs just a 1/4 piece of melatonin before bed and she sleeps like a baby. I have to honestly say that the stimulant meds were our and her godsend. Diane Amy Nardin <amykins98@...> wrote:Hi Pennie, >Thanks for replying. Guest guest
Hi Camille, They put my daughter on 10mg of paxil to start, and I was a little surprised, (she is only 5 years old and it seems like it is such a high dosage.) because I myself, am on 12.5mg cr paxil and that small amount of dosage has helped me just fine. I called our pharmacist, and our ped just to double check the dosage and both of them both said that that is the dosage they use in kids. I had some anxiety about giving it to her, but I DID give her her first dose last night. I figure we can try and see. Did your developmental ped elaborate at all on how he felt that paxil works differently on autistic spec. kids than on the NT ones? That is great that it is helping with your daughters anxiety and meltdowns. She does not have ADD or ADHD. Her devopmental ped told me Paxil works differently on Autistic Spectrum kids than NT ones. We have tried twice to wean her off of it,but the meltdowns come back with a vengance when we try giving it to her every other day. >>Camille
Guest guest
Sorry Amy thats its taken so long for me to get back with you. I have been working alot and well to be honest, just not inspired to type. LOL. Maybe we can meet halfway with our kids. Grand Rapids is about 2 hours from me. Abby isnt very hyper just wants alot of attention as well, Most days I dont mind. I dont think its that bad. Do you just have one child? Abby is a only child too. Abby isnt on medication at this point, I dont think she has a need for it now, however I have a gut feeling that we will need it when puberty strikes. LOL Have to run, gettting Abby ready for school, I have no desire to go out in that cold. Pennie
Guest guest
That's ok! That would be cool to meet half way sometime. Feel free to private email me. Aly is pretty hyper when around crowds and at home too. Sometimes she has an " off button " but mostly she is in constant motion. It wasn't so bad when she was little but now that I have a five year old crawling all over me when I am reading, or body slamming and jumping on me when I am watching tv., etc. It gets a little hard to take. It absolutely drives her nuts if I sit down to relax (everyone needs down time, especially when you have a challenging child) she will become very demanding wanting me to get her juice or this or that or the other thing. Anyway, I have one other child- a little boy who is 22 months, and NT. Have a great day! >>Message: 9 Date: Wed, 29 Jan 2003 06:56:19 EST From: Ploveabby@... >>Subject: Re: Re: Michigan >>Sorry Amy thats its taken so long for me to get back with you. Guest guest
Hi Elly, Of course I got out the Michigan map right away to see just where you live. It is quite a ways from me. From your house to mine you'd have to take Hwy 55 to 131 to I-96. My husband thinks it's about five hours of driving which, like you say, is a long time for us. We drove to L.A. last Sunday and when I stepped out of the car, I didn't think I'd ever be able to stand again. My knees seem to lock up if I don't get up every half hour or so. I know what you mean about not being able to ride in a car for a long time. When we fly from Palm Springs to Michigan, I have to get up a few times and just walk up and down the aisle. I often wonder if other passengers think I am casing the plane to hi-jack it as I stroll a few times at a time. We know a few kids who have attended Western. That's in Kalamazoo, right? My son went to MSU which seems to be playing in some big game today on ESPN and I'm supposed to watch it. I wonder if Michigan ESPN is different from California ESPN. I'll try and hook up to it. Go State!!! ) I, also, wish we could get together. Maybe if Tricia makes it over to us we could put our heads together and see what we could come up with. You could bring Cat and Tricia could bring Tom............wouldn't that be something? Tom is really a character and you'd love him! Besides, Tom loves all animals and anyone that does that is wonderful in my book. Anyway, it's fun to think about meeting and who knows? It just might happen! Take care. xxoo Ca. Guest guest
Here in California, First Lab Option 1 includes EtG. However, I would imagine that it varies from state to state. What is the price of the test? EtG adds a significant amt to the testing fee, so depending on the cost, that could give you a clue. Back in 2006 (I believe), Michigan dropped EtG from its test panel. But I don't know what has happened since then. Lorie MICHIGAN I HAVE BEEN GETTING DRUG TESTED WEEKLY OPTION 1 ALWAYS HERE IN MICHIGAN. WORKING A GOOD PROGRAM. LATELY I HAVE READ A TON ON ETG TESTING.
