Guest guest
Yikes. That threat of that parent in NC scares me. They want a copy of the church's by-laws? Since when does a church's by-laws prove or disprove what an INDIVIDUAL believes? We go to an Inter-denominational church--we are the pastors--our church is made up of people of all types of beliefs! If they subponaed our by-laws, they wouldn't find one thing in them about vaccines. This decision is completely one made on our OWN convictions and our OWN relationship with God. A church's by-laws are irrelevant! Karla in Indiana
Guest guest
Almost nine years ago, right after my son was born and I had been looking into exemptions, I ran into one of the heads of our local Church of Christian Scientests. We began talking about the issue of religious exemption and he warned me that if I were to use the religious exemption, state health officials DID indeed check up on it. He had dealt with them on a number of occasions. They want to make sure that the person using the exemption is a regular member of the church, not just a drop-in or someone who paid the dues to become a member to use the church in the exemption but does not attend. would probably tell us that they can check all they want but can't legally use it against the parent....or maybe this was true 8 1/2 years ago (oh my goodness, can it have been that long ago?!?!). Guest guest
What do they do if your religious beliefs don't involve an organized church? Does that then fall under a philosophical exemption? I think in CO it's just a waiver we sign, it doesn't stipulate a particular reason but I've never actually seen what it looks like. Guest guest
Jessi, you sure do know how to end a year !!! Is everyone alright??? Nana is going to have a heart attack with all these fires !!! Do you have a smoke detector or are all of yours fire alarms??? We have lived here 28 years and have had one fire in the upstairs bedroom... When our children were small, 7 and 4 years old... They were already in bed sleeping and the upstairs smoke alarm went off... As we were running upstairs, the children were running downstairs with bankies and teddy bears in hand... We told them to get on the porch and stay there unless they seen fire then go to the neighbors house... We got upstairs and didn't see any fire, but the smell of an electrical fire was coming out of the wall... I ran back down for a hammer and my husband started to pound a hole in the wall and the smoke came rushing out... Here we had an electrical fire in behind the plaster board of the wall... Our house is an old farm house with the wiring still having the cloth wrapping on it from the good old days... Needless to say we got that fire out and had to replace all the wireing in the upstairs... But our detectors worked on the smell alone and that saved our lives ) We have the alarms that start to ding when our batteries are getting too weak... We also have a carbonmonoxide detector in our house, in fact two of them... We have nine fire alarms installed to be up to code here in our county... You take care !!! And I agree, Enough is Enough !!! {{{ Fireless Hugs }}} Helen First off ) Thanks for the info ! and ) HI HELEN!!!!) miss talkin with ya!!!! Big event tonight!!!! Everyone was asleep and i smelled smoke i figured it was just Kelley outside smoking but none of the windows were open so i got up opened my door and there was smoke ALL in the hall!!!!!!! I knocked on Nanas door (two doors down) and yelled for Kelley. Nana looked in the other room and i was going to go outside OUT and AWAY from the smoke i opened the back door and a huge cloud of smoke hit me!!! Kelley had been smoking earlier and didn't put it out before tossing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the grass was on fire!!!!! i pored the cats water on it and screamed for Kelley to come put it out and came back in here! My breathing has been TERRIBLE the last couple days and i ended up starting prednisone tonight thanks GOODNESS if i hadn't i would be in the hospital now, a couple treatments but i'm okay just a bit wheezie and tight. I have a hepa running in here 24/7 so i turned it on hight so it isn;t too bad in here but the rest of the house is COVERED in smoke!! Worst of all is NONE of the smoke alarms went off we have one in every room!!!!!!!!! They were all fine just a little while ago, guess it was a wake up call huh!! This is our third fire in/around our house enough is enough!!!!!!!! Take care and CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALRAMS!!!!!! I just don't know what happened with the alarms seems like i just checked them and none of then did the beeping saying the batteries were low. Kelley is replacing them all and making sure they work now. We have one in every room and a carbonmonoxide detecter in the family room because of the gas logs and one in the hall. Nana gave Kelley a talkin to before going back to bed!!!! Wow you guys were very lucky!!! In the old house we had 4 fires that i can remember my grandpa started one in the kitchen cooking when i was little and the other three Kelley started, i don't think he should be allowed near anything that makes fire!!!!!! Guest guest
Hello Jessi An old trick to help clear the air (as hackers we did this when opening up hard drives and I know painters do this as well), you can simply mist water into the air with spray bottles. The idea is that the particulate matter sticks to the water droplets, clump up and fall out of the air. Might help to clear up the smoke without airing out the house. Note, they actually do something similar in some large skyscrapers by blowing the air through a sort of waterfall to knock all the dust out of the air. Guest guest
Hi Jessi, Glad to hear that there were no damages! Glad to hear that the breathing is better too... I'm fine, thanks, just very busy these few days, helping out at my sis's shop. School's starting tomorrow for the kids [primary and secondary levels], so the parents are busy buying schoolbags, stationery for the children at the last minute. Boy, I'm really exhausted. Guest guest
Dear Chelsea, There are several attorneys ready to take on cases for people who have been offended. Some will actually file suits for being " almost offended " , " nearly offended " , or even " slightly put off " . Call 1-800-TORTS-R-US. Operators are standing by. Damages are difficult to prove but if someone can demonstrate that they are unable to perform daily functions including striking the " delete " key on their computer, they are entitled to compensation. But DON'T QUIT! Too many people have quit the e-list in the past due to subjects marked at " OT " and qualified with “Caution: dumb joke enclosed” “I am sorry in advance for the message contained but it was too funny not to share” etc., but containing personal opinions which are offensive to some and leg slapping funny to (sick, twisted, off-balanced) others. For instance, a priest, a nun, an alligator, and a parrot walk into a bar.... (See, everyone who is reading this is already hyperventilating. WHAT is he going to say?) The priest says to the bartender, " Make me a martini. " (Scolling though our mental rolodexes to decide if this constitutes a slur against Catholics, Nuns, women, or alligators. PETA has no comment on this joke so far but is CONCERNED and is WATCHING IT CLOSELY.) The bartender says, " Abracadabra, you're a martini. " (This could be a racial insult to magicians; hijacking the word “Abracadabra” but a ruling in the 9th circuit court indicated that it it now allowed in the public domain. WHEW!) All that to say, political correctness has gotten us so wound up that we can't even have a conversation about i.e. “Has affirmative action has helped minorities or hurt them for fear of being racist”. Hang in there. Words can't hurt you. If you’re offended, do like Les and fire off such an immense, late night, volley of words that the Cascades will actually light up and make us Portlanders think the Mt. Hood is erupting! He wanted to discontinue hep tx for the week or put me in the hospital, but I did not want either, so he called my hep doc and they decided I could stay home and treat both at once. BTW, $203 for the meds!!!! I'll ask about a home supply. I've had this before - even in my eye and it's no fun, I can tell you. I don't want it again.
