Guest guest
Excellent news except for the timing---what happened to 2-3 mos from early May? I know, gives me a chance to work on patience. Guest guest
Thank you Lori! I will start emailing in the morning and I decided I am definitely going to DC. I have your flight information but need to know where you are staying exactly and if the invite is still there for the room sharing. Thanks again for Dr. s email address. I will write more in the am. When I am more coherent with my words. Worked late - Not out drinking. ha haLorie <lorieg@...> wrote: I contacted Graham, the executive secretary of CSAT's National Advisory Council a couple weeks ago to get more information about the Sept. 20-21 meeting. She explained that the agenda was being developed for Dr. 's review and informed me she would contact me with the extent of the discussion on EtG. I received the following e-mail from her last Thursday: "The agenda for the meeting is still being developed. However, we do expect to have a discussion/presentation on Alcohol Biomarkers, which will include reference to Dr. 's comments on EtG stated in the attached Wall Street Journal article. We hope to have an in depth discussion on the subject at the February 2007 NAC meeting." I was a bit upset and sent her an email expressing my disappointment (The following is an excerpt): "There are many of us who have patiently waited for something to be done. When we met with Dr. at ASAM in early May, he validated many of our concerns personally, reassuring us that SAMHSA would issue some sort of advisory within three months on EtG and its limitations. When I spoke with you in June about placing EtG on a future NAC agenda for discussion, you stated that that had already been done for September, along with a draft for a SAMHSA EtG advisory. The Wall St. Journal article states that CSAT intends to study EtG and issue a statement on its use in the fall. My attorney has postponed my administrative hearing until mid-October, in hopes that an advisory issued by SAMHSA would be very persuasive. It is very disappointing that it may not be dealt with until at least February '07. What is clearly a grave problem on the front lines has been swept aside for quite a long time now, with no intervention to curb the problem on anyone's behalf." Her latest response is as follows: "I am sorry we may not have an in depth discussion at the September meeting. However, as I pointed out, the agenda is still being developed, so the possibility hasn't been ruled out. The meeting will be open for public comment. The amount of time for each speaker is determined by the number of persons in attendance desiring to address the Council." SOOOOO...I would encourage you to send Dr. an appeal to reconsider the urgency of this issue and address it NOW rather than six months from now. Guest guest
As supportive as Dr. was in San Diego, I am surprised that he won't do something, especially after he made the comment in the WSJ that the issue would be addressed this fall. My e-mail pleas have so far gone unanswered. Anybody else get any response? I first contacted SAMHSA last August and have been bugging Dr. on a regular basis ever since. I'm quite sure he knows I'm not going away. Maybe it's just easy enough to hit the " delete " button and make me go away. I must say, it seemed like he genuinely cared. I hope he's not just another " politician. making empty promises. What more can we do? I liked 's idea of contacting WSJ...I will do that if SAMHSA postpones this till February. > I contacted Graham, the executive secretary of CSAT's National Advisory Council a couple weeks ago to get more information about the Sept. 20-21 meeting. Guest guest
SAMHSA will come out with an agenda at some point. From past meetings, it looks like that happens about ONE day prior to the event. As far as public comment, it looks like they usually allow a total of 10-15 minutes a day for that. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for 5 minutes a piece to speak to these people.
