In peace and solidarity for bold action now, Zeitz Board Chair Global Action for Children ***************************************************************** Global Action for Children Job Description Executive Director Introduction Global Action for Children (GAC) seeks to improve the lives of orphans and highly vulnerable children in developing countries by ensuring that all children have access to essential health care, education, food and nutrition, and the social protection they need to develop to their full potential. Formally established in 2007, GAC has quickly become a leader in children’s advocacy and is the only US coalition formally dedicated to advancing a comprehensive approach to children’s well-being. GAC’s unique strength comes from the diversity of charitable, non-governmental, student, and faith-based organizations that comprise its membership. GAC shapes public debate through media outreach and public education, catalyzing diverse alliances through coalition building, and empowering citizen activists through grassroots mobilization. Job Summary GAC is seeking a dynamic candidate seasoned in international policy to become its next Executive Director. The Executive Director leads a growing team of eight in GAC’s Washington, DC office. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong capabilities in international policy and advocacy, fundraising, networking and organizational representation, coalition-building, public speaking, and media relations. Key Responsibilities · Oversee a team of eight with support from senior management staff. · Provide oversight and leadership in setting the overall strategy of the organization with support from the GAC Board of Directors. · Conduct fundraising with support from the GAC Development Director; engage new and prospective donors on behalf of GAC; identify and secure new streams of revenue and ensure delivery of grant results. · Provide oversight and leadership in setting the GAC policy agenda, promote GAC policy priorities to US and multilateral policy-makers, and oversee and ensure the success of the GAC Leadership Council (comprising GAC coalition partners) with support from the GAC Policy Director. · Maintain and build new coalitions domestically and globally to advance the interests of orphans and vulnerable children; engage a wide range of GAC constituents. · Engage and build the capacity of the GAC Advisory Council to achieve results. · Represent GAC with the media and in public fora¾engage in networking with other organizations to maintain momentum and identify opportunities for organizational impact; build the GAC brand. Core Qualifications · 5+ years management leadership experience (min.) · 3+ years experience in international policy and/or advocacy (min.) · Strong fundraising track record · Evidence of ability to operate in an entrepreneurial manner · Experience in designing and implementing successful advocacy campaigns/strategies · Demonstrable constituency-building and relationship-building skills · Public speaking experience · Experience in media relations, including some on-record experience · Master’s degree or equivalent in public policy, business, public health, medicine, international affairs, or similar Additional Selection Factors (highly desirable) · 10+ years management leadership experience · Policy and/or advocacy experience related to children’s well-being in an international context · International development or other relevant overseas experience · Knowledge of Washington, DC policy context, especially experience working on Capitol Hill or the Executive Branch · Evidence of bi-partisan approach · Experience in working with high profile public figures · Private sector experience and professional relationships in private sector · Additional Master’s degree or PhD Terms of Employment Competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with skills and experience.
