Gere Tours Red Light District with Indian NGO

Film star and activist Gere toured the red light district of

Mumbai and witnessed firsthand HIV prevention outreach conducted by

nonprofit organization Population Services International (PSI) while in

Mumbai promoting a new HIV/AIDS awareness campaign. The actor was

impressed with the high volume and visibility of PSI's outreach workers

and witnessed activities such as " edutainment " games played with

commercial sex workers. He also visited one of PSI/India's numerous

voluntary counseling and testing centers as well as the Saadhan

telephone hotline. The project is funded by the U.S. Agency for
