Guest guest
Dear Colleagues, I’m happy to see that the GAA is moving forward, driven by commitment, in a positive direction. A couple opinions about the recent GAA meeting on 3/14/2001: We at African Services Committee were recently involved in the March 5 protests about the lawsuit in South Africa. A very empowering part of both organizing and taking part in the protest, for me personally and also, I think for others involved and the movement in general, was the knowledge that throughout the world, like-minded people were also organizing and protesting. While we had 200 people in the freezing rain here in New York City, I was heartened by the 1000s of others in, say, South Africa, Brazil and France, who were also on our side. Taking inspiration from this event, we would love to see more international involvement in GAA. This would (1) give GAA a more powerful voice and (2) empower members with feelings of solidarity. Concrete steps that we can take towards this are: 1. Inviting people from different countries onto the GAA Board would be a great step in the right direction. 2. Internet conferencing would allow many more voices outside of the Washington area to take part and be heard at future GAA meeting. I look forward to your comments. Guest guest
Ditto to this opinion. I think the more activities here can be parralleled in other countries/cities the more effective they will be. The efforts of TAC in South Africa was very important. Maybe we should invest even more in exploring linkages with organizations already existing in affected countries and other regions. All of which says of course that the infrastructure which et al are working on is crucial. Ismael Muvingi Phone: (410) 625 2220 ext 3644 Fax: (410) 234 2987 Email: imuvingi@...
