You might try some of those healthy shakes, say like Ensure or Entrerex diabetic if you have a sugar problem, with some frozen yogurt blended in. Throw a banana in there. Or if you are drinking the vanilla kind, a tablespoon of peanut butter and vanilla frozen yogurt. That way you get the calcium, fiber(I drink the kind with added fiber). They are creamy, palatable to the taste. The kind I drink contains 237 calories. In fact I am drinking one right now, as I forgot to eat lunch. I know that when I was on treatment sometimes it was easier for me to drink something than try to eat. I could sip on a shake for a long time, but couldn't stand to just sit down and eat a meal, because of the smells from food. You might try that. Nothing sounds good and it definitely does not taste good. He is just worried, I know, but he thinks I am causing myself more problems with fatigue and my low blood counts. I have told him these are all side effects and will go away after tx. and my weight will go back up. It is depressing, though. Guest guest
Hi Kerri, Seems like fruit and yogurt are the main things that agree with me, too. I have found that cold turkey (I cooked one and sliced, bagged, and frooze it) has been fairly easy to eat - and then I can manage an occasional spoon of peanut butter :-). Haven't lost any weight yet - which figures since I could stand to take off a few pounds! Sounds like you are eating what you can! good thoughts, karen When I was on everything tasted spicey hot and my usual foods didnt taste good > appetite > > > Since I started treatment, my taste buds and foods have definitely > changed. Guest guest
Yup, I've also got a bad eater on my hands. Some days she'll eat quite well but she too can go for days with hardly anything. She's on track for height but not for weight. Apparently I was the same as a child so I've been told by doctors and my mother not to worry about it... so I try not to but it's hard! During an episode she'll eat next to nothing but I think they're all the same. Hope this helps Inga Appetite Hi, I was wondering if anyone elses child has NO APPETITE! Guest guest
Jenn, it's been a long time since I've had a 2 year old but I have 4 kids and my baby is 14 years old! I do remember that toddlers didn't consume much, it doesn't take much to fill that tiny stomache but appetites usually picked up as they would go through growth spurts. Guest guest
Hi, My (who hasn't been properly diagnosed with yet but we think he probably has it) just turned 2 (end of March) and weighs under 12kg which is around 28 pounds I think (we're metric here in Singapore!) He goes through spurts - some days he eats loads, other days, and especially just before, during and just after a fever episode, he eats almost nothing and can lose 2-3 pounds in a couple of days. I've been putting this down to the fact that he almost always gets a bad throat during his episodes, sometimes that comes on as full-blown tonsillitis and he's in agony for days, and sometimes it's just a slightly inflamed sore throat for a couple of days, which is helped with paracetamol and ibuprofen meds. He hasn't really gained any weight for about 6 months now - stuck at about 11.7kg. Some days even when he's not feverish he eats very very little. But he's happy, active and seems to have plenty of energy when he's not in the middle of an episode so I'm not too worried. On days when he will eat, he eats everything - Chinese food, Indian food, Western-style food, fruit, yoghurt, spinach, fish, all sorts of flavours and all sorts of food-types (although he doesn't have a sweet tooth!) I gather that toddlers often eat in spurts, though - the health visitor that I saw for his 2 year check the other day said that his weight was just below average but not to worry if he goes through eating spurts. He's just slightly above average for his height. One of his best friends (not ) is a very faddy eater - she's just about to turn 2 tomorrow and goes through phases where she will only eat one thing for several days....if her mum doesn't give in (which she often doesn't), the child gets nothing. Yet she's MUCH bigger and heavier than and constantly on the move, full of energy and very happy and cheery! So I guess it's normal, and as long as the child is active and happy then they must be getting what they need. BTW my little one Isabel, 7 months, is a faddier eater than already, she's a real fussy little madam :-) Kerry, (2) and Isabel (7 months)

Guest guest
My son barely has an appetite too, and then when he finally does get an appetite he gets sick with his next flare and it all goes downhill again. We definitely worry about his growth, as does his Doctor whom is a GI/Nutritionist. My oldest daughter was always a picky eater too when she was younger and we always felt she was small for her age, and generally was always below the bottom 20%; however, our son is even smaller than she was which is a great concern. He was born a nice size, almost 8 pounds at birth. He was in the upper part of the growth chart in height/weight till the fevers started and suddenly he dropped to below the bottom 5%. He will turn 7 years old in 8 weeks, and just one week ago finally weighed in at 40 pounds. We had to start giving him caloric supplements a year ago because he was unable to gain weight in a very long time ... since we started the supplements, along with various medications, he was able to gain six pounds in the recent year. This is the most weight he's been able to gain since he turned a year old (he weighed 20 pounds at one year). I was also a very skinny kid ... but I wasn't sickly like he always is and we always take that into consideration too. We know without a doubt that if he wasn't so sickly so often that he'd be a much bigger boy. Mason's surgeon did tell us once though that as long as the child isn't anemic and that his bloodwork is all okay ... that we shouldn't worry so much about his weight. But we still do ... Guest guest
My daughter 5 1/2 will not have an appetite prior to and during her episode. During her episides she can go days without eating. Its is all I can do to get her to take a bite of toast. Even her favorite foods she will turn down. She wants to eat it and takes a bite then will say it doesn't taste good. She does not even want to eat cookies or treats that I would only offer her on special occasions. but the rest of the time she is fine. She was born at 9lb5oz and still continues to remain above 90% for height and weight. Her fevers started when she was 6 months old. > > > > Hi, I was wondering if anyone elses child has NO APPETITE! Guest guest
Tony, " Every so often " she won't eat " properly " . I'm not sure that's really a problem. I've rarely known a kid who always ate " properly " --at least in the eyes of adults. I'm not aware of any protocols to make a person hungry. SMR training has done that on occasion with clients I've seen--especially early in training--since it makes people more aware of their bodies. You are correct that the " appetite " protocol does tend to be more oriented toward reducing compulsive behaviors (compulsive eating). If the client is not extremely thin, or is not doing this for reasons related to body image, etc. then I guess I wouldn't worry about it.Pete-- Van Deusenpvdtlc@... http://www.brain-trainer.com305/433-3160The Learning Curve, Inc. Guest guest
Hi all I had my sleeve surgery on the 27th of March and I have already lost 12 lbs. It was such a good experience all the way around. I would do it again tomorrow. The Hospital and Dr.s and Staff were all amazing! I had 2 people with me, my friend who had it done in Sept and has lost 67 lbs and my mom who was so freaked out. Until she got there and met everyone and saw the place and people, and figured out it was not some black market butcher shop. Anyone considering this please go ahead. Now On to my question? I feel like I have a little bit of an appetite. Is this normal? I am dealing with the head games of eating just because it tastes good or I am bored, or happy, or sad etc...... I am trying to really figure out if I am hungry or not. Guess it just takes time. Kristi
Guest guest
Kristi,I got my sleeve on Mar. 23 and came home on the 27th. YOu must have been one of the group of several I saw sitting in a row as I went on one of my walks around the halls. (I got a band 3 years ago and only have 20 more pounds to lose so I was not an "obvious" Aceves patient.I seem to feel some hunger too and when I consider that we are supposed to take in 600-800 calories a day and if I have only had 3 clear protein beverages at 115 calories each then I DO need to eat. It is not hunger like the pre-sleeve days but after a full day of teaching algebra it does not surprise me that I need two more shakes before bedtime (although there has to be nap (recliner) after the first one because I soooooooooooooooo tired after a day of school). I think this weekend I will look up web site, daily plate (?) to help track my caloric intake. Today I know I forgot to drink enough water so I am trying to catch up a bit this evening and hope I still get enough sleep later (sure am grateful for indoor plumbing !!) It is good that you know about head hunger but check your intake too. You not only have to function you have to heal and that needs the 600-800 calories.gloria
