Guest guest
, make sure your dad takes lots of digestive enzymes and that may help and maybe pancreatic enzymes since the pancreas may not be doing it as well. It won't hurt. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ eGroups.com home: cures for cancer - Simplifying group communications
Guest guest
Hi -There is a web site called pancan that has tons of information that would be of help to you. Also-s Hopkins has a forum just for pancreatic cancer patients and caregivers. It is extremely helpful, but always hard for me to download for some reason. My dad has pc also, stage iv. So far he is doing okay-we are currently evaluating his options, ie chemo or not. What treatment is your dad receiving? You can e-mail me if you want to directly. Good luck to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ eGroups.com home: cures for cancer - Simplifying group communications
Guest guest
Appetite > Hi, can anyone tell me if they know of anything that will help with my dad increasing his appetite? My father has Pancreatic Cancer and is not doing well at all. Due to the tumor being near his stomach, he cannot eat much at one sitting and has related to me that he has a " small window " of time when he actually feels hungry. By the time his meal is ready, however, he is no longer hungry. If anyone knows any info on pancreatic cancer or helping him to gain an appetite, please let me know! He is currently on cantron, but is not able to tolerate it too well. He continues to struggle against this horrible disease. I appreciate any info! Ask the doctor if a glass of beer will be okay, it has nutritutional value- given to nursing mothers and helps with the pain. I ate cold foods, fruit, vegtables and cold meats. FOod does not have to be hot to be nutritional. I also ate what I liked and had a taste for. It helped a lot. > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ eGroups.com home: cures for cancer - Simplifying group communications

He should try to eat (drink) freshly pressed vegetable juices. If he eats that every day, he will have appetite. Guest guest
Typical -- I dropped 40 lbs... See http://www.folkarts.com/idef/diet.htm for a list of what you should (should not) be eating... LISTEN to your body... food draws fluid out of your body and make you sicker... I went thru 8 quarts of orange juice a day at the start, and if I forgot to take some -- I felt sick in less than an hour... Appetite I seem to have no appetite and am wondering if this is common to CFS. Does anyone have ideas that have worked for you? I need to eat as I've lost 25 lbs. with this illness yet I understand that if I'm not hungry I'm better off not eating. Any suggestions are appreciated. Guest guest
I, too, have had a lot of appetite problems and lost a lot of weight with CFIDS because of nausea. One thing I did find, though, is that taking doxepin really did improve my appetite for the two years that I was on it (I had to go off of it because it was causing constant urinary tract infections). Certain other antidepressants commonly prescribed for CFIDS sleep disorders and such (Remeron is another, newer drug that tends to increase appetite) seem to have the same effect. If you haven't tried this yet, it's worth a try. Since I went off doxepin six months ago, I've had a lot of difficulty eating again. I know sugar is a huge taboo, but I've actually found that one of the only things that improves my appetite when I'm seriously ill is chocolate. When I was trying to eat a yeast-free diet, I even ate unsweetened chocolate mixed with stevia (it was gross, but the chocolate really does stimulate my appetite). Otherwise, I get the organic, malt-sweetened kind - still bad but not as bad as the other kind. I don't know why this is, but someone told me that chocolate contains similar chemicals to marajuana? If this is true, that could explain the appetite thing, or maybe I just want to rationalize my chocolate habit. Peggy

Guest guest
When I was on everything tasted spicey hot and my usual foods didnt taste good appetite Since I started treatment, my taste buds and foods have definitely changed. EVERYTHING that I eat tastes like somebody poured a cup of salt on it, even sweets. I have no desire for the foods that I used to enjoy ... beef, chicken, veggies, potatoes. In fact, I've pretty much gone vegetarian but I do eat dairy and fish. When I'm at the store, I'll buy foods that my brain tells me would taste good, only to get home, try the food and it tastes disgusting. At least once a day, I make myself a smoothie and my stomach really likes those.Does anybody else have the salty taste syndrome? LOL
Guest guest
My taste has changed alot, but not with salt. Red meat and pork are impossible to eat, but I have no problem with salt or spice. My first bloodwork after begining treatment actually showed slightly low sodium levels from drinking so much water, so I have actually started adding a little extra salt. I also drink at least a quart of Powerade a day and a liter of Pedialyte an hour before my friday shot. Lee > > Since I started treatment, my taste buds and foods have definitely > changed. Guest guest
I have a feeling of masticating most of the time--like my mouth is trying to produce enzemeys or whatever it does to mask food when you eat it. Seems like I have bad breath allot, seems like I have a try mouth allot---maybe that is the salty feeling.I use to chug down the water, but not now, I get cold ice water and sip it allot. I am trying the vinegar now. I tried pigging out on T-day and thought that I was going to die afterward---too much for the stomach, so I am a water and food grazer now.I figured that I am not loosing weight, so just eat now when I take the pills, twice aday.good luck <linda68082@...> wrote: Since I started treatment, my taste buds and foods have definitely changed. Guest guest
Kerri, You might have him re-read the info on treatment. One of the side effects is weight loss. Now you might try eating several small meals a day, that way you are not over stressing yourself, Also try eating with plastic forks, spoons and so forth. That will help with the mettalic taste. Guest guest
Thanks. The plastic utensils is a great idea! I will definitely try it. My husband is giving me a lot of anxiety over the weight loss. He keeps buying me stuff like cheese cake and other rich foods and I just can't eat them. I tell him, I am forcing myself to eat what I do. I have been living off of fruit, dry cereal and frozen yogurt. I have no desire to eat anything else. Nothing sounds good and it definitely does not taste good. He is just worried, I know, but he thinks I am causing myself more problems with fatigue and my low blood counts. I have told him these are all side effects and will go away after tx. and my weight will go back up. It is depressing, though. My clothes are too baggy on me, so I went shopping over the weekend and had to buy size 0 jeans. My husband likes curves. My booty is gone!!! Guest guest
No sweat honey, Just don't be like me. After treatment the food tasted so good, I added a few pounds. And that I didn't need. A size 0, dang girl you are the same size as my oldest daughter. You could be like my grandpa, he had no booty at all. So he carried paperback books in his back pockets. LOL Don't worry hon, Here is another thought. You might try some of those healthy shakes, say like Ensure or Entrerex diabetic if you have a sugar problem, with some frozen yogurt blended in. Throw a banana in there. Or if you are drinking the vanilla kind, a tablespoon of peanut butter and vanilla frozen yogurt. That way you get the calcium, fiber(I drink the kind with added fiber). They are creamy, palatable to the taste. The kind I drink contains 237 calories. In fact I am drinking one right now, as I forgot to eat lunch. I know that when I was on treatment sometimes it was easier for me to drink something than try to eat. I could sip on a shake for a long time, but couldn't stand to just sit down and eat a meal, because of the smells from food. You might try that. But most of all don't sweat the small stuff, just keep trying. Love JanetKerri Landress <kerrilandress@...> wrote: Thanks. The plastic utensils is a great idea! I will definitely try it.
