Welcome. It is good that you got such improvement from your myotomy. I

used to experience what you described about eating a complete meal and not

feeling the fullness in the esophagus, as in your case my esophagus was so

enlarged that I could hold a meal in it. If I was in a restaurant I would

stop at that point and test after I got home with a gulp of water.

Hi! We haven't (yet) experienced eating problems, but others here

have and I'm sure can offer some suggestions. At least he is

drinking Ensure and other drinks. Do you know if it is a

contamination issue or some fear of choking/swallowing or other that

is the problem? Is he currently seeing an OCD therapist?

Thank you for responding to my post. My son has a fear that his food

is poisoned with anthrak.I have tried everything I can to make him

know that this is not true.I guess my only hope is that this thought

will pass quickly.He is not on meds. and does not see a therapist. I

have not been able to find a specialist in washington state near where

I live who can help him.

Hi and welcome!

My son, when he first started showing signs of OCD a year ago, was

afraid that the food I cooked and the foods that were stored in our home

were contaminated by " germs. " He would not eat properly, and lost so

much weight that his pediatrician was treating him as for anorexia. He

got very thin, and it was scary. He would eat things that were packaged

and some fast food, but not enough. With medication he became less

fearful, and gradually began eating normally again. He still prefers

not eating with the family due to contamination fears, but at least he

is eating. One of his medicines has weight gain as a side effect, and

with that and his good appetite he is actually getting chunky.

Thank you for sharing. My son has also had issues with food since the

beginning of OCD, but he has always ate (oddly and finicky) but still

he ate.My son became dangerously overweight on meds and stopped taking

them after 4 years of nothing but bad side effects. We decided to wait

and mabey try meds again when he was older. He is older now but is

afraid to try. Mabey there is something herbal I can try him on.I know

eventually his fear of food will pass. I just hope he doesn't get sick

in the mean time.

Maybe a doctor would be the best one to answer that. None of us may really

know the answer to that one.

My name is . My second child, Jerrett age 3.5 has . My oldest

and youngest have none of these issues. His first fever was at 12wks old.

He also has suffered from colds/chest congestion. We have him on two kinds

of allergy medicine (Zertec/Singulair) I had him tested for allergies and

we found out he was allergic to milk. Milk always exaggerated the

congestion and caused him to throw up mucus, so I already had switched him

to soy milk long before the tests were done. We decided to take him off the

allergy meds for a few months and his congestion was so much worse, we put

him back on. He gets neck pain due to swollen glands and he has had yucky

looking tonsils w/cottage cheesy stuff on them, in the past. We use

prednisone to get rid of the episodes. I finally took him to an

immunologist and we've been giving Jerrett cimetidine for the last 8

months. His fever temps have reduced significantly but he still has the

episodes every 4 wks. We usually give him one dose of prednisone and he's

better in a few hours. We are going to continue the cimetidine for another

4 months and then re-evaluate in the spring.

Every thing you described about your son...has been our experience with our son.

is much older than your son though. I'm sure what you wrote would fit a

lot of other kids too. gets the swollen lymph nodes, joint pains (mild

and lasts only a short time), doesn't eat during an episode, extreme fatigue

(before, during and after an episode), fevers like you described, headaches,

dizziness, stomach pain, vomits usually once during an episode. He lost over 20

pounds over a three month period, a couple of years ago...before he was

diagnosed with ...then we started treating him with prednisone....things

are much better now.

So you are in good company, . Keep reading the posts and links and you

will find tons of encouragement and support to get you through.

I can't imagine how much harder it would be to have a younger child sick every

month and not able to tell you what he is feeling or needing. was 10 when

he started getting sick. I think that is one reason why his doctors where able

to diagnose him so quickly. was able to communicate with them about how

he was feeling.

WOW, Dorothy you have quite a story! I have such gratitude for moms like you, I

could not even imagine raising a child since birth and then facing a situation

where an unfit biological parent has rights to come along and disrupt the baby's

life. My good friend fosters 3 children (one was successfully adopted and she

has high hopes for the other 2). For her adopted daughter, the biological mom

wore a tight belt around her belly the entire pregnancy trying to conceal it and

in the process caused a dead spot on her baby's brain from the excessive

pressure. My friend had the WORST time navigating the Medicaid (or care, not

sure which one applies) and had to fight like a dog to get her daughter to see

the specialists she deserves. The stories of many of these children are just

heartbreaking. Te state of our family services departments in the US and the

level of tolerance on the government's side for neglect and abuse is appalling.

Anyways, this is just my personal opinion, but after reading everyone's stories

here and reading some medical studies, I am convinced that a T & A is the closest

thing we have to a cure and indeed it IS a cure for many many kids. Please

email me if you are interested, I have a copy in pdf form of a recently

published study regarding the effect of T & A's on kids. It is something I

shared with my ENT yesterday (he was already aware of the study and does at

least 5 kids a year with 100% success) and we are getting scheduled

your heart must be breaking for your little girl.

birth dad on Monday and despite telling him she had a low-grade fever

and was acting as if an episode was coming on – he took her out and

about all day and never gave her a nap (she is almost 2). She came home

exhausted. Fortunately, she is doing okay and only had a fever for one

day afterwards. I checked the calendar and she is still a week away

from a " scheduled episode " so I guess she was just under the weather.
