Jess, there are pressure bandages and special creams that can be used to reduce scarring, both in color and size. They used to only be available through a doctor's office, but in recent years they've turned up as OTC products. Ask your pharmacist about Mederma cream/ointment/gel, Curad Scar Therapy pads, Neosporin Scar Solution silicone sheets, etc. Also, steroid injections can reduce scarring. I would ask your family doctor if this is something that would be appropriate for your incisions. Glad to hear you're doing so well!Debbi in Michigan
Guest guest
Hi Jess, Just to echo Debbi with regards to the scars. I tend to get keloids on my scars and I am just now having cortisone shots into one scar I have that is very " ropy " . The cortisore will soften and flatten out the scar so it is not very noticeable so that could be an option. 1 month post op is too soon to tell how they will settle down with a bit more time and perhaps regular applications of vitamin E cream. Also as for the area around your belly button. I have had surgery several times and the area around the incision can be numb for several months but the feeling will come back eventually. So glad to hear it has been worth it and you are doing so well. Liz

Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I saw the board was quiet and thought it might be a good time to say Hi and tell you how I am doing post-op! I had my surgery on Sept 25th, and have lost just at 40lbs today! Holy moly!! The weight was really coming off fast at first- then I hit a litle plateau (which I know many of you have spoken about!) but I am now back on the losing wagon! As for excersize (which was a big pre-op question I had) I did light walking and stationary biking starting the very first week, then began slowly adding in other things each week! Now, at about 5 weeks post-op I am feeling pretty strong and go to the gym everyday for yoga, swimming, light weight lifting, treadmill etc. I pretty much just listen to my body (which is what Dr. A says to continue to do.) I have found a very helpful way to track my progress for all of you that are pre-op... I took my measurments before I left for MX, and then every friday since, and I can REALLY track my small successes!! I lost sooo many inches in the strangest places- neck, calves, arms, everywhere!! This has been a great motivation to really keep track of my shrinking Any other good little tips out there? The only problem I have is a yucky acidy/swallowy feeling if I forget to take my Kapidex (prescription like Nexium) in the am...so obviously that is something I will always need to take! Hope you are all doing well! I really love this community and check the board daily- hoping for new info and insights! Talk to you all soon! Guest guest
What type of surgery did you have? Dr. A does them all. 40 pounds in one month, that's a lot but I've seen it happen with folks who have bypass surgery more than the other types. Let us know your stats - height, beginning weight, now, and goal, that gives us context. Thanks > > Hi Everyone! > > I saw the board was quiet and thought it might be a good time to say Hi and tell you how I am doing post-op! Guest guest
Hi, One of the things that helped me was to do pictures of myself every month --about the same time every month too. When I would look at them, I would think there wasn't much of a change. But, if I would looked at ones that were taken 2 or 4 months previous, I would see a big difference. So If you have a tripod to put your camera on or you can set your camera some place and have a timer on your camera, you can take these pictures without even having someone take them of you. Try to get a front and back shot and maybe a side shot of yourself. That is the one thing that helped me. Take care, Suzanne In a message dated 11/2/2009 2:12:27 P.M.
