Guest guest
Hi Trisha, After awhile being on this board you will get the hang of what is going on. If you read the post daily, you will start getting a lot of information from all the questions that are being talked about. No need to go back and forth trying to read all the threads. You didn't say what kind of surgery you are having. If you are having the "sleeve" there is no after care need. You will want to let your own primary care doctor know what you are doing about having this surgery. I went to my doctor about 2 weeks after I got home and had a blood draw for lab tests to just make sure all my levels were in the right place after surgery. For me my potassium was low and so that was something that my doctor watched and put me on meds for the low potassium. As time went on, she took me off about 90% of the meds that I had been on when I was fat. So just having a good doctor that you can do to and talk with should meet all your needs. If your doctor is in favor of what you are doing, I suggest you find a doctor who will be on board with your choice. If you are having lapband, I highly suggest you NOT doing it and have the sleeve. There are too many problems and issues with the lapband and the after care is costly!!!! For me my favorite Protein Drink is Premier Protein Drink. I love it and I get it at Costco. It is very low in calories and I can get 30 grams of protein in one 11 oz drink box. There are only 160 calories and it taste great. I hate and would not get any Isopure Protein Drink. I think it taste like pond sum!--Just my opinion. This is a great board to come back to with question, fears, just want to talk and say how you are feeling. You will have all kinds of emotions. Scared, excited, anxious, second guessing if you are doing the right thing, your family may have fears and try to talk you out of it--PLEASE do not listen to scared family members. All your fears, feelings and emotions are very normal and so many of us have had these and many more. There are some really helpful and nice people on this site. Just keep posting, we really are listening to what you are say. Hugs and welcome, Suzanne Sleeved 10/21/2008 Lost 105 pounds In a message dated 12/3/2010 8:19:13 A.M. Guest guest
Hi Trisha! Where in Texas are you? I'm in Boerne, just north of San . You are SO going to love Dr. Aceves and his entire group. This will be the most amazing medical experience you've ever had. They take such wonderful care of you that you won't believe it. You will never again be satisfied with hospital care in the US. After care? There's nothing you need to do except blood work which your PCP can do. Dr. A will tell you to have an upper GI done at 3 months, which is to make sure you don't have any leaks, but I was also told that I would KNOW if I had a leak because I would have symptoms, which I don't, so I didn't have the test done. My PCP is having my vitamin levels checked with my " normal " blood work every 6 months. There is no other after care! Try the various protein drinks to see what you like but DON'T stock up on any because your taste really DOES change after surgery. I have a dozen drinks in my pantry that I used to " love " and now can't stand! Sorry, but you need to be forewarned. The first 30 days are the hardest - it gets easier every week after that. It took me about 3 months before I could eat more than about a tablespoon - my tummy was still swollen and healing. I'm 6 months out now and have no problems EXCEPT to remember to eat SLOWLY and chew THOROUGHLY. Trust me - your tummy will remind you if you don't! I started at 250; I'm now at 188; goal is 150. I am SO happy with my sleeve! I can cross my legs again; wear skirts since my thighs don't rub together anymore; paint my toenails; walk my dogs without my feet and knees hurting; WEAR HIGH HEELS AGAIN! WOOHOO! All terrific stuff thanks to Dr. Aceves and my sleeve. AND this wonderful board where I learned about the sleeve and Dr. A! Welcome to the losers bench girlfriend!!! Guest guest
,I too am scheduled for surgery on January 14,2011 and I also live in Orlando, Florida. I have been reading these posts for some time now and they are very helpful in understanding what it is we are about to do to change our lives! Keep reading them! I have one concern and may post the question soon if I don't see it posted concerning blood clots while in flying for the 8 hour flight home so soon after surgery. Since so many have made their trip without issues, my question might be a moot point...time will tell...My wife and I are flying out of Orlando on the 13th and will probably meet you on the ride in to Mexicali.Take Care,Steve G.On Dec 3, 2010, at 19:31, Caridad <garcia9612@...> wrote: Yes that happen to everybody,Now Hi my name is maria I live in miami Florida, so faraway from san diego and my surgery probably would be january 14 2010, I also has been searching around in this site and I'l find that is fabulos how many people had a surgery so many years ago and yet they continue giving they experience and suport to new people thru all this years.About protein check during differents diet that I has been on the only one that realy I like is from Quick Weight lost (QWL)quickweightlost.com is a litte expensive but the taste is excellent for me, also they have protein bar, jello, hot chocolate, chips, cereals (hot and cold)juices, soups etc.If you like try one before expend too much money in products that may be you don't like If this blah, blah in some way help you I'm glad From: "T, blondee" <blondeej@...> Sent: Fri, December 3, 2010 12:43:25 AMSubject: Hi everyone I am new here! Guest guest
What would you like to know about blood clots? I was put on blood thinners 5 days before surgery and 10 days after due to having a blood clot in my lung when I gave birth to my girl. Have you had issues with blood clots in the past? The staff will have you up and walking that night after surgery and you get a little breathing machine to do a few times per day so you don't end up with clots in your lungs. The day of surgery you get a shot of blood thinners to prevent clots. On you way home it's a matter of keeping your legs movin, getting up from your seat and standing during the flight and also stretching your feet, pointing and flexing. If you have any other questions please post that's what everyone is here forFrom: Steve Gerrity <sgerrity001@...>" " < >Sent: Sun, December 5, 2010 10:26:29 AMSubject: Re: Hi everyone I am new here! ,I too am scheduled for surgery on January 14,2011 and I also live in Orlando, Florida. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Suzanne and ! Thanks for the warm welcome! I am in Fort Worth Cheryl. And I just realized I did forget to put what surgery I am getting - I am getting the Lap Band. I would love to get the sleeve but #1, can't afford anything more than the band right now, it's stretching all we have just getting that done, and #2, I do plan to become pregnant sometime within the next 2 years or so, and throughout my research, it seems the band in the best option for those still wanting to have children. I am so excited about the success you all have had thus far! I can't wait to be sitting here a year from now and hopefully down a BUNCH of weight and being able to say that I am a success story as well! I really haven't heard one bad thing about Dr. Aceves throughout my 6 months of research - I actually feel MORE comfortable with Dr. Aceves than most US docs! > > > I like Cheryl's enthusiasm about Dr. Aceves. Its my turn on Monday! Guest guest
I wouldn't recommend getting a band to anyone. Bipley is right; it doesn't work long term. If you think the sleeve is expensive, re-think that, because it'll be more expensive to get the band, go through the fills, unfills, and finally end up having to have the band taken out (another surgery) and revised to a sleeve, perhaps with a lot of scar tissue from the band. I'd wait if I were you to get the sleeve, or beg, borrow or get a loan, use 7 credit cards, whatever it takes, and get the sleeve which is a permanent solution to WL. The band is a temporary fix that's if you can tolerate it for very long, and some cannot tolerate it. Ask Cyrena on this board about the band. > > > > > > I like Cheryl's enthusiasm about Dr. Aceves. Guest guest
Hi Steve: I'm very glad that you coming the same day like me, I'm a RN and certified respiratory therapist; and I could tell you that blood clot happen in any person that go under surgery that has poor mobility that's why is important after any surgery, come out of bed and start walking and moving your legs, as lisa posted, also you can start doing some walking now to increase your muscle veins tone and search on the internet about an incentive spirometer to increase your lung capacity, you blood flow to lungs, oxygenetion and prevent atelectasis. If you have some extra cash try to book in first class in your way back home, seat has more room space for leg streching and the exercise that explain to you are excellent. Any question let me know and see you in our way to mexicalli From: Debert movie_mommy@...To: Sent: Sun, December 5, 2010 12:39:49 PMSubject: Re: Hi everyone I am new here!
