Guest guest
Hey Gail, Sorry it took me a little while to get back with you, I just got back from the gym.. Ok-I'll answer any question(s) you might have about having the band and/or the sleeve. I LOVED when I had the band-I loved being thin and wearing a size 2 (with the band). I loved the fact that at 38 I could turn heads of people half my age... hahaha But what I didn't like about the band was the fact that I could never get past the mushy foods or soup and salad.. That I couldn't have normal food-now this is NOT normal for everyone-just speaking on what happened with me.. Everyone is different and some people never have a problem with the band.. I wasn't one of those people. I was throwing up daily, I would exercise more than I was taking in and thus losing weight at an unhealthy rate(normally 5-8 pounds a week). I also lost so much weight that my port stuck out like an a sore thumb.. It was UGLY!!!!! Then I got an infection from a Dr. in NC (he since is no longer working in the state). I had to have my band removed by Dr. A and Dr. C because I was so unhealthy and malnourished-my hair was falling out by the hand fulls, my skin was dry-to the point I was scratching til I brought blood, my cycles were all but gone and my face looked sunken.. Many health problems-to many to list.. OK ENOUGH OF THE BAD ABOUT THE BAND.... I enjoyed the band until it got out of control-I couldn't " see " myself as sick, that is until it was too late.. By the time Dr. A and Dr. C went in to look and readjust my band (had a MAJOR slippage) it couldn't be saved... So I woke up without my band and Dr. A standing beside my bed smiling and saying it will be ok. He is such a great Dr. and a wonderful man.. Even though I couldn't have my band anymore, he explained that I had to get healthy again before I could have the band back. Well 2 yrs. later (almost to the day) I went in for my band-YEAH!!!! Dr. A talked to me about maybe getting a sleeve done, that way I wouldn't have anymore problems with throwing up, my hair or being malnourished and I would have normal cycles again.. Getting the sleeve done was more than I thought it was going to be. At first, I was in more pain-but it was WELL worth it... I am down 70 pounds AND I can eat normal food again and don't have anything sticking out of me(the port). I feel great with the sleeve.. I haven't come across anything that I CAN " T eat... I don't do take out or drive threws... I don't eat junk foods, sweets, pasta or breads.. For me, Dr. A and Dr. C said that I have to work my way up to 800 calories... Right now I'm at about 450-550 a day and thats ok, because it's a work in progress-every day try and increase my diet needs.. I take a vitamin and B-12 shots.. I also keep a daily log of my exercise and food-on mydailyplate.com it's free and it does a GREAT job of logging everything. Weather you get the lap band or the sleeve-you have to make the right choice for you and only you..,. Dr. A and Dr. C are some of the best Dr.'s I have ever met. If you have any question their whole staff is wonderful... I am neither PRO band or PRO sleeve... Just whats right for myself... Im sure that there are people on here that have never had any problems with their bands or sleeves, so please talk to alot of people and then do some homework and then talk to Dr. A and Dr. C... Then decide what is best for you.. I wish you the VERY best in your journey of becoming half the woman you are right now. happy losing, Donna Bean 15 Via Marciana American Canyon, Ca 94503 707.853.5132-cell hotcalirunner@... calirunner88-AIM On Tuesday, June 03, 2008, at 06:02PM, " Gail Stockin " <sweetsmile1955@...> wrote: >Donna: > & nbsp; >That is awesome! & nbsp; How do you feel the comparison is & nbsp;between the lap band surgery and the sleeve? & nbsp; What were your experiences between the lap band and sleeve as far as weight loss; overall feeling of well-being; ease of life-style before and after? > & nbsp; >You information and input is very valuable and I certainly appreciate your help in making my decision! > & nbsp; >Warmly, >Gail > > > & gt; > & gt;From: Marie Friedman & amp;lt;apanther97 (DOT) com & amp;gt; > & gt;Subject: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] Wow Bipley!!! > & gt; @groups. com > & gt;Date: Tuesday, June 3, 2008, 2:36 PM > & gt; > & gt; > & gt; > & gt; > & gt; > & gt; > & gt; > & gt;I was so excited when I read a few of these posts. (I have been in training & amp;nbsp; at work and not able to follow the board so closely) & amp;nbsp; I am happy for you Bipley. I have been so very pleased with my sleeve. You will be surprised how easy it is. Don't get me wrong you will still have to watch your intake but I am watching to make sure I get enough! I don't have to chew everything til it is a liquid before I can swallow (still chew it well) I have never had a PB but I have asked my husband to burp me. It just seems an easier lifestyle with the sleeve v/s the band and yes I have seen the band at work & amp;nbsp;4 of my family members including my self have had weight loss surgery in the last year all by Dr. A,and I am the only one that choose the sleeve everyone else has the band. I had more to loose than everyone else but the hormone thing was my deciding factor. I will & amp;nbsp; be 3 months out june 10th and I should be at 60 lbs by then I > am at 57 right now. > & gt; The only regret I have is that I did not do it sooner. > & gt; & amp;nbsp; > & gt;2 OF US HAD SURGERY IN LATE NOVEMBER AND 2 OF US ON MARCH 10TH AND BETWEEN THE 4 OF US WE HAVE ALREADY LOST OVER 210 LBS THAT IS & amp;nbsp; THE EQUIVALANT OF & amp;nbsp;A GROWN MAN !
