Guest guest
Update: Saw the MD doc yesterday and he did the trigger point Botox injections into the Piriformis muscle. It takes 3 days -2 weeks before you get relief; he said normally about 3 days, but the " book " says 2 weeks. In any case, I could tell he hit the right spot. He's an expert and teaches other docs how to do these injections. I asked him how long it would last; he said " well, if you're prone to it..... " and I said, " No, never had it before, BUT I recently lost 100 pounds. " He looked at me and repeated, " You lost 100 pounds?! Well, that's IT. " This is what my chiropractor told me too, not enough fat in there so the bone is irritating the muscle, the muscle irritates the nerve, so am hoping the Botox will fix this permanently. But I will have to do the Piriformis stretches from here on out to keep it at bey. > > Anyone have any issues with this muscle AFTER they lost their weight? > I'm having a real problem on the left side piriformis muscle. Been to two chiropractors and both agree this is what is causing the pain. Been to a massage therapist and she agrees with them. The muscle is either spasming or clamping down on the sciatic nerve which is painful. I've tried drugs (muscle relaxers), Vicodin, Aleve (which I shouldn't be taking with my stomach (past ulcer/irritation from Ibuprofens), stretching the muscle, massage and chiropractic adjustment. Nothing has helped. It started out of the blue about 7 weeks ago and has become increasingly more painful. Tomorrow I'm seeing an MD who does trigger pt. injections in muscles; I'm thinking Botox (which they do) to paralyze the muscle (won't affect walking), but Botox is not covered by ins. so I'm looking at paying approx. $800! Yikes. I have to do something, it's literally kicking my butt. Just wondered if anyone else started having muscle issues after losing a lot of weight. Yes, I take vitamins, specially womentowomen.com, which are pharm. grade, and drink my protein. I'm down 101 pounds and am pretty much at goal.
