Guest guest
I am 2 months post-op & am looking to expand my list of healthy, low-calorie type foods that will aid in my efforts towards maximum weight loss. Upon recommendation from the Deli at my local health food store, I tried their freshly made " Quinoa Salad " that was described as " a very healthy perfect protein " and of course, I loved it. I have since found several seemingly healthy Quinoa Salad recipes online, but of course the nutritional info is not included so it will be difficult to track calories, carbs, fat, and protein. I know very little about Quinoa. Although it is technically a seed of the Chenopodium or Goosefoot plant, it is often called a supergrain. It contains all 8 essential amino acids, and is considered a complete protein. Looking up the basic nutritional information I find that 1/2 cup cooked Quinoa has 130 calories, 2 grams fat, 24 carbs, which seems very similar to that of brown rice (110C, 1F, 22Cb). Given this comparison, I feel like Quinoa may not be a good choice of foods for this stage of my weight loss journey. Does anyone have any further knowledge or thoughts on Quinoa? Thanks, Kristi
