Hey Olga! I had surgery in Aug 2009. It was a lil scary, sure...what isn't?! I was two countries away from home!

When you first get there you will have your blood work done after fasting. (that was a lil bit of a pain cause it took a few tries to get bloodwork done) However...that was the most painful first part! (not bad in my opinion!) Then you will get your ECG/EKG done and a few other routine check ups before you see the Dr. We met with Yolanda first and then Dr Compos...who has also had the surgery himself! :)

Then u get to go to a beautiful hotel with some nice restuarants for your last big meal ever! :) It was nice. The one staff member even brought a friend and I drinks in the pool! (only had one... :) ) In the afternoon I had the anethesatist come visit and tell us about the procedure..and he's not hard to look at either! ;) hahah

ok...so you get picked up early in the morning...I was the first to have my surgery because i had the farthest to travel home (canada). Last thing I barely remember and couldn't feel was the spinal block....and i was out like a light! Woke to have Dr Compos checking on me...then to move me to the room I had checked into that mornin...

I was up and about that afternoon, walkin and doin my breathing exercises...and the Dr's check on you quite regularily, always poppin their heads in there in between surgeries to see how you are doing! No nothin to drink for the first day!

The next morning you will drink some blue apple juice....to which the nurses will continuously check your drainage bag for the blue dye...and then u can have some liquids...apple juice, tea, chicken broth....till u go home 3XDay...

The Dr's are on call as needed. You just have to say. There was only one nurse at night that could not speak english well at all, but was helpful and friendly.

These Dr's put themselves in this job on a daily basis! I ended up having to stay an extra night because my Gases were not releasing, despite my best efforts of walking lots...around and around the hospital-yes it got boring, but there was an end in sight! Both the Dr's were great! I don't have any complaints about them...They were professional and just always there...caring genuinely. I don't know too many Dr's here that don't allow themselves much personal time as these guys seemed to never leave the hospital!! hahah

Again I would go back in a heart beat.

Since surgery, the 30days are horrible..you're hungry-or so you think!! haha...you are mentally hungry for the food you cannot eat... soup, shakes, jello...blah!! who wants that!?! Well it was worth it! i lost 25-30lbs in the first month!! The hardest part was...I was living with my grandma after surgery and she was like " you have to eat!!" and you are "no, I can't, I'm fine and not hungry!" (I am in school in another city and lived with her for the summer)

Since Aug 5/09 I have lost 56lbs..felt a lil heart burn here and there. I take nexium as needed. Friday was the first day i actually felt sick since my surgery, and it was cause i drank a sip or two of pop about 10 min after a meal (a no, no!) ....I could feel the gasiness through my whole intestines and now...I could care less if i ever drink pop again!!

This so far is the best thing to happen to me. I know of someone who has also had the surgery there in April and recommended it! They are down 100lbs. :)

To make my story short: The Dr's are great! No worries! The staff of nurses are well trained and caring! Have your funerals for ur big meals and your eyes putting too much on your plate...eat with a smaller plate and enjoy every bite of healthy food you choose! I no longer crave pasta or breads...I have them occasionally, but could care less now! and I am losing weight! something I haven't thought possible really until after the surgery!
