Guest guest
If I were you, I'd also look into cardiac rehab. I have found that my insurance pays for the first 36 sessions and it was refreshing to be monitored as I eased back into exercise. You can see how things go while exercising and being monitored then venture on to other exercise without much worry. Good luck to you and keep us posted. ~guin
Guest guest
Hi - I am one of the " zappers " that kinda lurks in the background checking out what kind of issues us " ICD'ers " have been having. On this one though, I am too excited to not respond. I had my most recent ICD implanted over a year ago so I am not in any recuperating stage other than from the fact that I have heart failure, which I have had now for about 3 1/2 years. I haven't really had the inclination to workout in that time other than that which I recieve from chasing my kids around or when I was required to partake in rehab excersises after my initial diagnosis....atleast until now. I know that to get started it may be a little expensive but I have started working out at home using Wii Fit. It is wonderful. This is the first time that I have been excited to work out! And I can't stop telling other people about it. I never thought that a video game could get me such a well rounded workout! And with the option to do yoga, strength training, aerobics and balancing exercises to improve posture, you have plenty of options for choosing which activities you want to do. It will also tell you what areas of your body will benefit from each activity allowing me to focus on the areas that I want. It also keeps track of how long you have been working out at each particular session and it keeps track of your body mass index and weight everyday while tracking your progress to the goals which you set. I have finally lost weight and decreased my BMI into the normal range, considering I was in the overweight range and was advised that the medications I am on would prevent me from losing the baby weight I had put on from the birth of my 3rd child (I delivered 11 days before my heart attack so I had quite a bit of spare weight to lose). I love seeing my progress everyday, which most workouts can't give you. It has given me the encourgement to not give up and keep on having fun while working out!!! If you have the means to do so, I would definately look into it!!!! > > So, my doctors have told me not to do any chest exercises with my > defibrillator, and since I don't want to fracture another lead, I'm > inclined to listen to them this time. Guest guest
I was under the impression that the Wii controllers interfered with ICD's and PM's. Is this true?? Guest guest
August 2007 surgery. Have lost 75 lbs. A month ago I started Pilates classes. Love it! Felt good; no pain just normal muscle soreness. Lots of core/stomach exercises. Even some mat work where I'm on my stomach. Two weeks ago after a class I had significant pain in my right side. Stopped after an hour or so. After that I started having a hard time getting food or liquids down. A lot of vomiting. I also have a lot of pain in my back and shoulders; mostly right side. Haven't had anything more than water or broth in close to a week. Have an appointment tomorrow at Fill Center to get unfilled. Hopefully that will help. Anyone have any problems with this type of exercise?
