Guest guest
Well here I am 4 days after my fill with Dr. Aceves and I still feel the restriction. I remember this feeling after I had my first few fills and I am so glad I can tell my band is there now. For those of you who didn’t read my other post, I had been slowly gaining and did not feel any restriction for 2 months. Turns out it is because I only had .5 cc in my band. I am thinking it must have happened during a band checkup when they did a leak test. I loved the doctor I went to but I think he may have accidently not put my fill back when he did the test. Only time will tell if I have a slow leak but 4 days out and I am still feeling restriction. I wanted to comment on the technique Dr Aceves uses to give a fill. It is really different then the fill doctors I have used in the US and I think it is better. What he has you do is stand on a standing table (A table that is standing upright) and the xray machine is directly in front of you. He then turns it on and finds your port. He makes a “x” on your belly where your port is with the center of the x being where he needs to put the needle. He then had me drink the barium BEFORE he put the needle in so he could check my restriction before any adjustments. Then he numbed the area where he was going to put the needle with an injection. The other thing that he uses that is different is the type of needle and syringe with a locking device. I do not know the name of this device but I know I had not seen it before. It allowed him to keep the needle in my belly and pull out the syringe to check the amount of saline he pulled out. Dr. Aceves has you drink the barium while he is “tweaking” the saline in the band so he can watch the adjust flow on the flouro machine. I think this is the best technique! He doesn’t go by numbers but by how it looks on the screen. Other doctors I have seen will say “I am giving you ..5 cc’s or 1cc” as if giving you an even amount is necessary. Dr Aceves put 1.3 cc’s in my band for a total of 1.8. I watched as he checked one more time with the 1.8 and I could see the difference in the restriction on the screen. This makes me wonder though, how did the other US doctors ever get 3.0 cc’s in my band?? At 2.0 I was totally cut off so he backed it off to 1.8. How in the world did I ever have 3 or 3.2??? This just convinces me that I need to always go back to Dr. Aceves no matter the inconvenience. But I will say my fill doctors were not band doctors. My main fill doctor here is a plastic surgeon. The other doctor I went to I believe is a gastroenterologist. I am not saying they can’t be experts too but obviously in my case going back to Dr. Aceves is the best choice. Not only for the technique he uses but the fact is if something is wrong, he can fix it. And of course, he is still the sweetest most caring man and I love him to death!
