Guest guest
Cyrena, I'm so sorry you are having this problem. With the move and everything, the stress and the band must be at war. My thoughts and prayers are with ya, girlfriend!!! So glad you got the unfill and hope and pray this will work out for you. You take care of yourself and keep us aprized of the out come. Big Hugs..I know this is scarey, just know we are all here for you. Deb > > Hey there everyone, > I thought I would give you an update and ask for all you praying folks to add me to the list I have been too tight for a couple of months now, I've been down to only liquids for a while. I talked to Gaby and she said I needed a complete unfill and get the swelling down, also get fluro done to check things out. I was reluctant but I feel so miserable I conceded. I'm not able to get back to Mexicali which stressed me out too but one thing at a time. I went to the same place I had my first two fill done. The gal (don't know if she was a nurse or tech or what to call her) said she didn't think I needed fluro, I insisted I get one to see where things are at. She finally sat down and listened to my symptoms and said I needed a complete unfill and fluro (duh!) I was grateful Gaby had already prepared me for what was to come. I had 1.9 in my band and she said she could only get 1.2 out, she told me that is typical when the fill is 2 yrs old that > some can be absorbed - I need to check with Gaby if that is true, I just don't know what to believe from these people!!!???!! Anyway, I was grateful to get the gal that had been there over a year and then when it came to my unfill she stuck the new girl on me to practice. UGH. My port is totally at the surface so I wasn't totally freaked and I went through my whole - contamination fears and they only stuck the needle in once. Ok back to the story... I went down to radiology for the fluro and I was talking to the techs about lap band and the readiologist came in and said " well I don't believe in it " . I was like, huh, great to have you working on me So he did the barium swallow and that went down, then he asked me to swallow a pill so he could watch it, now remember this is AFTER all the fill is out, and it wouldn't go down, it just sat there. He left the room, told me to drink more water and call him back after it passed down. I talked to the > techs some more - did more lap band education on them - and then told them it had gone down. They called him back in the room and he looked and said it hadn't gone down. Then he looked some more and said, " oh, this is barium, the pill has gone down " so from the " table talk " I'm guessing I have a slight slip that was holding onto some barium. I won't have the report until Thursday. Gaby told me to do liquids for 2 weeks and see if the swelling goes down. The gal here told me I could probably get filled again in 3 weeks, but I'm not in a hurry. I'm looking forward to getting through the liquid stage and then putting some weight back on. Gaby suggested 20lbs but I'm not sure I can do that much She said my suggested weight for my height is 145 and I'm at 125 right now. We will see, I'm just grateful to know that I'm working on the problem and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I need to schedule some blood work now and follow > up on those results with Gaby. I'll keep you all posted. Guest guest
Hi Cyrena, So sorry to hear about your ordeal…I will definitely keep you in my thoughts. One thought I had is that maybe your band has not slipped but your pouch might be stretched a bit? Did you get to see the xray very well? Regardless, it sounds like you are on the right track. Hang in there it will get better. Guest guest
Cyrena....It's true, some of the liquid does absorb so she was right in saying that it's natural for some saline to be missing. This is why some people need a slight fill every couple of years.I would have preferred to have you get the fluoro THEN the unfill, sometimes as soon as you remove the saline a slip will fix itself immediately. So we really don't know what condition you were in before the unfill and the radiologist could have done the unfill under fluoro as well. If the pill wouldn't go down that doesn't mean a slip, sounds to me like you are very swollen. That could have done it and that is the more likely answer. The radiologist would have been able to tell you right then and there if you slipped. Either way, I'd get the films scanned to CD and email them to Dr. A and have HIM look at them. Guest guest
Thanks Bip, good to know about the saline. As I mentioned the Radiologist was not so happy with me so I didn't push the questions I didn't even get to the SEE the screen, only hear them talk about me. I agree about the fill and the order of the procedures, that is exactly what I asked for and they insisted they do it there way One more example of how Dr. A does best :) I signed a release right away and they said they will send Dr. A the CD by Friday, I'm anxious to hear what the HE has to say opposed to the Dr. that doesn't even believe I should have had the procedure done :) That is great if all I have is swelling and we can get that down with just liquids and less agitation to the situation. I'm so blessed to have Dr. A and his expertise and friends like you to help out too!! Thanks!! Guest guest
Cyrena...Aren't you a coffee drinker? If so, you might want to cut out coffee for a couple of days. Any stomach irritant such as coffee, caffeine drinks, alcohol, etc. If it is swelling that kept the tablet from going through quickly with an unfilled band, that would mean you are very very swollen and you need to get it under control. Guest guest
Cyrena: I have been in your shoes. My swelling was so bad that I was in a preslip condition back in August. Dr. Campos are removed all of my fill and put me on Nexium Mups for two weeks, I stayed on liquids for four weeks and when I went back after 8 weeks, my pouch was back to normal---AND I HAD GAINED NO WEIGHT and even got a slight fill. I think you will be fine. You know the program and what you have to do when they tell you. I will also remember you in my prayers as I do all my bandster buddies because I care about our group and want us all to be successful and healthy. I wish you the very best. Please keep us posted. I had 1.9 in my band and she said she could only get 1.2 out, she told me that is typical when the fill is 2 yrs old that some can be absorbed - I need to check with Gaby if that is true, I just don't know what to believe from these people!!!???!! I went down to radiology for the fluro and I was talking to the techs about lap band and the readiologist came in and said "well I don't believe in it". I talked to the techs some more - did more lap band education on them - and then told them it had gone down. They called him back in the room and he looked and said it hadn't gone down. Then he looked some more and said, "oh, this is barium, the pill has gone down" so from the "table talk" I'm guessing I have a slight slip that was holding onto some barium. I need to schedule some blood work now and follow up on those results with Gaby. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for listening to my day And I really do appreciate any prayers! Guest guest
Bipley, you are so right on, as usual. When I am tight, irritated or swollen, coffee sours my stomach. Any stomach irritant such as coffee, caffeine drinks, alcohol, etc. If it is swelling that kept the tablet from going through quickly with an unfilled band, that would mean you are very very swollen and you need to get it under control. Thanks!! This is why some people need a slight fill every couple of years.I would have preferred to have you get the fluoro THEN the unfill, sometimes as soon as you remove the saline a slip will fix itself immediately. So we really don't know what condition you were in before the unfill and the radiologist could have done the unfill under fluoro as well.If the pill wouldn't go down that doesn't mean a slip, sounds to me like you are very swollen. That could have done it and that is the more likely answer. The radiologist would have been able to tell you right then and there if you slipped. Either way, I'd get the films scanned to CD and email them to Dr. A and have HIM look at them.
